Chelsea News and Form

The Blues had a disappointing night for themselves in a heavy 4-0 defeat at Bournemouth on Wednesday. That is back-to-back league losses for the Blues now, having been brushed aside by Arsenal in their previous fixture. The loss against Bournemouth was costly for Chelsea as they slipped out of the topfour in the league in midweek.

Stress is starting to mount at the Bridge now because Chelsea are not scoring goals. It is back to Stamford Bridge on Saturday where Chelsea have posted a W7 D4 L1 record this season. Chelsea took a 2-1 victory over Newcastle in their last league home fixture, snapping a run of two without a victory. Those are the only goals at Chelsea have managed to produce in their last three league games.

Things clearly are not working for Chelsea in the final third of the pitch. Home and away combined they have scored in just one of their last four played. Across their fixtures at Stamford Bridge this season in the top flight Chelsea have scored 21 goals, conceding nine. Under half of their home fixtures have gone over 2.5 goals.

They have done pretty well defensively though to their credit because they have taken a clean sheet in 42% of their home fixtures overall. But even that is on the slide because they have managed just two in their last eight played, home and away combined. Chelsea have not been losing at the halftime break in any home game this season and they do still boast the third-best home record in the top flight currently.

Key-Facts – Chelsea v Huddersfield

  • Chelsea have scored in just one of their last four league games
  • The blues have suffered back-to-back league defeats without scoring
  • Huddersfield are winless in 11 Premier League games

Huddersfield News and Form

Huddersfield had new manager Jan Siewert sit in the hot seat of his new job for the first time in midweek as they hosted Everton. Even with visiting Toffees going down to 10 men, Huddersfield still failed to get anything out of the game in a 1-0 defeat. So it was more of the same from them.

Huddersfield’s away from this season is pretty bad at just W1 D3 L7, but as bad as that is, it is still actually better than what they have produced at home. Huddersfield have come up with just eight goals on their travels this season in the EPL. In their last four away games, they have produced just one in total. They start the weekend 13 points away from safety.

In their last five away games, Huddersfield has taken a D1 L4 record, the lone point in that sequence coming in a 0-0 draw at Cardiff in their last away game. Huddersfield have averaged pretty much two goals per game against them this season on their travels. In total, they have only earned two away clean sheets. The Terriers are winless in their last 11 games in the Premier League.

Of their 11 away fixtures, they have been trailing at the halftime break in five of them. The surprising thing perhaps is even though that they are bottom of the league, they are not the side with the worst away record in the top flight currently. Cardiff and Fulham have done worse. The Terriers are though, the lowest scoring side in the top flight this season by some distance. Even though they are facing a Chelsea side who are out of form, it’s still a big stretch to picture Huddersfield winning.

Chelsea v Huddersfield Predictions

Chelsea to win: We can only see the one outcome happening in this one and that is the home win obviously. At this stage of the game, the Blues should be comfortable and a Chelsea to win to nil option is the right fit.
