Chelsea News and Form

The League Cup meeting in midweek will have no bearing whatsoever on this league contest. This is where it counts. Chelsea have made a very positive start to the new season with a W5 D1 record on the board. The dropped points came last weekend in a frustrating London derby out at West Ham. On home soil at Stamford bridge, they are three wins from three and have been scoring freely there too. Chelsea have returned nine goals in those three games. We are going to take the straight forward option of 13/20 odds on over 2.5 goals* (Betting Odds were taken from September 24th, 2018 at 11:24 p.m.). There has been an average of four goals per game at Stamford Bridge this season. So the stats are there to even push that to 3.5 goals if you fancied.

They still are crying out for someone to lead the line, but Eden Hazard has been in terrific form with five goals netted in the league this season. Hazard is at 7/4 odds in the anytime goalscorer market for the game* (Betting Odds were taken from September 24th, 2018 at 11:24 p.m.). They looked totally rejuvenated under new boss Maurizio Sarri and they will only get better the more they play this new attacking system. It will be fascinating to see how much they get at the Liverpool defence. Both teams to score has to be a good option for the game between two strong attacking sides.

Liverpool News and Form

It has been perfect from Liverpool so far this season with six wins from six. They are showing some great form, both attacking fluency and the ability to grind out results. It was a comfortable 3-0 win that they picked up at Anfield last weekend over Southampton. The Reds have scored at least two goals in all but one of their games this season in the Premier League. They have four clean sheets in their six games too. But they haven’t faced an attacking force as good as Chelsea’s this season on the domestic front. We see Liverpool having the edge over the Blues but not by much. The Liverpool to win by a one-goal margin is at 10/3 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from September 24th, 2018 at 11:24 p.m.).

Liverpool have won three of their last four league games by a one-goal margin so there is a little trend there. They beat Tottenham by a one-goal margin in that sequence. Their top scorer this season is Sadio Mane with four games. He represents a bit of value at 2/1 odds in the anytime goalscorer market* (Betting Odds were taken from September 24th, 2018 at 11:24 p.m.). Roberto Firmino’s two league goals have been on the road, while Mo Salah has scored all of his league goals this season on home soil. After winning at Spurs already this term, it would be another massive three away points if Liverpool to win this.

Chelsea v Liverpool Head to Head

The Blues had the edge over Liverpool last season picking up four points from their two games, including a 1-0 home win over the Reds. Considering the poor season that the Blues had, it was a good return from them. They are unbeaten in three now (W1 D2) against Liverpool and both teams have scored in six of the last seven league meetings and there have been four 1-1 draws in the last seven Premier League clashes.

Chelsea v Liverpool Predictions

Liverpool to win: We can see Liverpool causing some damage at Stamford bridge on the weekend. The Reds won’t have been tested against such an attack-minded side this season as Chelsea are so it will be a workout. But we see Liverpool as being more of a finished product. Away win.
