Chelsea News and Form – Will the Blues ease past Newcastle?

The Blues earned a great 4-1 away win at Southampton before the international break. That made it back to back league successes for them, having taken a win in all but one of their last four played. So they are certainly growing into the season and young players like Fikayo Tomori, Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham are coming good for them. Chelsea are the third-highest scorers in the division currently.

But they do have theb currently not in the bottom four. Chelsea have only taken one home win this season in a D2 L1 record, so they haven’t quite been there with their form at the Bridge. They only got their first win in their last home game, which was a 2-0 success over Brighton. Chelsea have scored at least two goals in five of their last six fixtures, but only have the one clean sheet to their name.

75% of Chelsea’s league fixtures this season have gone over 2.5 goals. Chelsea have only been leading at half time in half of their games at the Bridge. However, they have netted the first goal of the game in six of their eight played in this campaign. Young striker Tammy Abraham is currently the joint top scorer in the Premier League with eight goals.

Newcastle News and Form – Can Newcastle win at Chelsea?

Newcastle did themselves a huge favour just before the international break in taking a 1-0 home win over Manchester United. That was just their second win of the season, the other one happening on a trip to Spurs. So Newcastle are W2 D2 L4 this season and still are one of the prime relegation candidates according to the bookmakers. It’s their home form which has been serving them the most. Out on the road, Newcastle are W1 L3.

The Magpies have scored only one goal in their last three games, and have suffered back to back defeats away from St James’ Park. The first of those was a 3-1 loss at Liverpool and then a 5-0 loss at Leicester so that’s a lot of goals shipped. They did play most of the game at Leicester with only ten men though. Newcastle have scored only three away goals this season in the top flight.

But still, 75% of their road fixtures have gone over 2.5 goals. Newcastle have found themselves behind at the break in three of their four on the road (W1). They are six points better off than they were at this stage of last season’s campaign. So that’s something to be said for them. Watford, who are bottom of the league are the only team to have scored fewer goals than the Magpies have done this season.

Chelsea v Newcastle Predictions

Chelsea to win: The Blues look a sound bet to go and get themselves the win in this one. They have been fairly clinical in attack and have Tammy Abraham in brilliant form up top. Newcastle will find this a whole different proposition to what they face against Man Utd. Home win & both teams to score, just as Chelsea may ship from a set-piece.
