Chelsea v Sheffield Wednesday Preview

Chelsea continue to look a little unsure of themselves at times, but they dug in there to earn a place in the EFL cup final. They collected a 2-1 win over Tottenham in the second leg of this semi-final, Chelsea eventually winning on penalties. That leaves Chelsea with a very patchy run of W3 D1 L2 in their last six games across all competitions. In the third round of the FA Cup Chelsea collected a comfortable 2-0 home win over Nottingham Forest from the Championship.

Their win over Spurs did continue some great home form that Chelsea have going. The Blues have only lost two home games all season at Stamford Bridge. They are now on a three-match winning streak on home soil, having scored exactly 2 goals in each of those three games. In midweek the Blues acquired the services of striker Gonzalo Higuain to try and boost their output up front. Chelsea have collected a clean sheet in seven of their last 10 home fixtures in all competitions.

Key-Facts – Chelsea v Sheffield Wednesday

  • Chelsea are unbeaten in their last eight home games against the Owls
  • Only one of Sheffield Wednesdays last eight games have ended over 2.5 goals
  • Wednesday have only suffered one defeat in their last eight games in all competitions

The last time that Chelsea and Sheffield Wednesday met was during the 1999/2000 Premiership season. They have met 16 times in FA Cup matches throughout their history and from that Chelsea hold a W8 D6 L2 record against the Owls. Sheffield Wednesday have failed to win any of their last eight visits to Stamford Bridge in all competitions. The Owls are down in the bottom half of the championship table currently, with Steve Bruce at the helm. In the last round of the FA Cup Sheffield Wednesday needed a replay to get past League One challengers Luton.

They did so by winning a replay at Kenilworth Road. Sheffield Wednesday have only lost one of their last eight games across all competitions. Seven of their last eight games have finished under 2.5 goals. Out on their travels, their away form isn’t all that good as they are just W2 D2 L5 in their last nine away games in all competitions. Both wins in that sequence incidentally, were 1-0 victories. Sheffield Wednesday have scored in all but one of their last six road games.

Chelsea v Sheffield Wednesday Predictions

Chelsea to win: We don’t get a sense of an upset happening in the fixture. Chelsea should be too strong for the Owls and the Chelsea to win to nil option is at 10/11 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on January 23rd, 2109 at 3:23 p.m.)
