Chelsea News and Form

Chelsea collected a 1-0 success out at Crystal Palace on the weekend to leave themselves with back to back wins in the top flight. In their last five league games, Chelsea have taken the four wins (L1). Overall this season the Blues have posted a W6 D3 L1 record at home in the EPL so they have been fairly strong there. Their only loss of the season at home happened in their last home fixture which was against Leicester.

Chelsea have tallied 19 goals in ten home games, conceding just eight. Less than half of their home games have gone above 2.5 goals this season and that’s down to their defence. The Blues have won 30% of their home games to nil this season. Each of the last five league games at Stamford Bridge have ended under 2.5 goals so there’s a trend running.

In no home game this season have Chelsea been losing at half time. They have conceded 62% of their home goals in the second period of matches. Chelsea have scored the opening goal in seven of their ten home games. The Chelsea/Chelsea hafltime/fulltime option could be worth a look.

Chelsea v Southampton Head to Head

The Blues eased to a 3-0 win at St Mary’s in the season’s first meeting
Chelsea are on a seven-match winning streak in all competitions against Southampton
Southampton have conceded at least two goals in six of their last seven against Chelsea
The Saints are on a three-match losing streak at home against the Blues

Southampton News and Form

Southampton lost 3-1 at home against Man City on Sunday leaving them with back to back league defeats. That is five defeats in their last eight Premier League fixtures (W2 D1). So their mini-revival of back to back wins is over it would seem. The Saints did get a win in their last away game in the EPL, a success at bottom side Huddersfield.

They were a four-match losing streak away from home before that. The Saints have averaged exactly a goal per game away from home. 60% of their away games have gone over 2.5 goals and that has not been because they have a been a powerful scoring side. Southampton have been trailing at halftime in five of their ten road games.

They haven’t taken a clean sheet in any of their last ten Premier League fixtures either. A positive for them is that they have scored in each of their last four games. Just three times away from home have Southampton got the first goal of a game. There are only four sides with a worse away record than that of the Saints. Only Burnley and Fulham have conceded more goals than they have

Chelsea v Southampton Predictions

Chelsea to win: The Blues still badly need a striker, but they are looking a bit more well rounded. They have delivered back to back away wins in tricky games and have the quality to pick up three points on home soil against the Saints. Chelsea to win to nil.
