Valencia v Chelsea Champions League betting sees Blues summer signing Juan Mata meet up again with the club he moved to Stamford Bridge from. Mata has been one of the bright sparks of Chelsea’s season so far, his passing, vision and finishing have been a big boon to boss Andre Villas Boas. The Spanish forward netting on Match Day one at home against Bayer Leverkusen, and now the London side head to Spain to try and cement six points from their opening six. Chelsea had to be patient against the Germans in their opening Group E, but two goals late on secured maximum points for Villas Boas in his first Champions League match with Chelsea. The two sides are no strangers to each other, as they have met four times since 2007. In the 2006/07 season, the two sides went head to head in the quarter finals, with Chelsea being held to a 1-1 draw at the Bridge, and then running out 2-1 in the return leg at the Metsalla. They came into contact again in the group stage of the following season, with Chelsea also winning by a 2-1 score line again in Spain. So Chelsea, although this did appear to be a tricky group with Valencia and Bayer Leverkusen, can take first control with another win in Spain. Valencia only managed a 0-0 at Belgian side Genk in their opening Champions League fixture this season. Up until 2007, Valencia had not lost to English opposition at the Metsalla, but tables have turned with them losing their last three (two against Chelsea and one against Manchester United). Overall, Valencia’s record against English sides is W7 D4 L3. The Spaniards go into the match on the back of a defeat on the weekend in La Liga, going down 1-0 away at Sevilla. That was their first defeat of the season, having won three and drawn one of their opening four matches. Spanish sides are always tough and challenging, but Chelsea do have a pretty decent away record. They have not lost on their last six trips to Spain, and have only lost one of their last seven away Champions League group matches. So they look strong contenders to pick up an away win, although it will probably be a tight match. Chelsea go into the match with speculation over Frank Lampard, as he has been left on the bench quite a bit this season. Chelsea have a strong squad to take to Spain, although striker Romelu Lukaku is not eligible to play. But the Blues get Daniel Sturridge back after injury, and they should be strong enough to get through this. As always, possession is a big part of the game against any Spanish side, but that is something which the Blues can do. After having beaten Valencia at the Metsalla on their last two trips there, it is worth backing Chelsea for another win. There is a small trend in the 2-1 score line as well (which is 19/2 at Unibet), so that may well be worth backing in your Correct Score betting as well for Valencia v Chelsea.
