Chelsea News and Form – Can the Blues rediscover their winning touch?

Losses against Man City and West Ham have suddenly put a screeching halt to the great winning momentum that Chelsea had running this season. The Blues had plenty of chances to sink the Hammers at Stamford Bridge on the weekend, but couldn’t deliver. Christian Pulisic, who has been in great form in front of goal recently missed two glorious chances for Chelsea in the 1-0 loss. Chelsea are W3 D2 L2 at home this season, which is nowhere near as good as their away record has been.

Chelsea were on a three-match winning streak at home before that slip against the Hammers on the weekend. Chelsea have averaged just 1.3 goals per home game this season, but they are still averaging under a goal per game against them at the Bridge. Just two league outings at Stamford Bridge have made it over 2.5 goals this season, the Blues bagging three clean sheets in seven. Chelsea have been level at the halftime break in four of their home fixtures in this campaign. The Blues have opened the scoring in all but three league games this season. One each of the three occasions they didn’t, they lost.

Aston Villa News and Form – Can Viola leave Stamford Bridge unscathed?

Given that Chelsea have just lost back to back games, this may not be a bad time for Villa to be visiting them. They battled to a point at Old Trafford against Manchester United on Sunday, a game in which Jack Grealish scored a stunning opener. The point from the 2-2 draw leaves Villa at just W1 D1 L5 on the road this season in the top flight. Their one away win happened at Norwich at the beginning of October leaving them winless in three away from Villa Park. The Villains have been averaging almost 1.6 goals per away game this season. That’s good.

What’s not so good is that they have averaged over two goals against per road fixture. Villa have conceded at least two goals in each of their last three road games. Home and away combined, Villa have scored in eight of their last nine league fixtures, which is a great, positive thing for them. It’s probably worth backing them to get on the scoresheet in this Wednesday’s trip to London. Villa are yet to secure an away clean sheet, and they have conceded 13 of 15 away goals in the second half of fixtures. 11 of those 13 second-half goals conceded have been in the final half-hour of games.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa Predictions

Chelsea to win: Villa will turn up and fight well, but they may find Chelsea’s attack a bit more difficult to handle than what Manchester United’s was on the weekend. The Blues did make changes on the weekend to rest players, as should be good enough to come up with a home win. Chelsea to win & BTTS.
