Chantry House to bounce back into form in Cheltenham's Cotswold Chase?

One of the big Grade 2 fixtures from the Festival Trials Day at Cheltenham on Saturday is the Cotswold Chase.

There is only a small field of five for the 3m 1f contest. The betting market is being dominated by Chantry House.

Will the potential 2002 Cheltenham Gold Cup prospect deliver the odds, or is there someone waiting in the wings to make a big claim?

Chantry House 10/11 FAV in Cheltenham Cotswold Chase Racing Odds

CHANTRY HOUSE will be looking for a bounce-back performance after disappointing supporters over Christmas.

He went into the King George at Kempton as the favourite but was pulled up.

Chantry House is likely going to this year’s Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Connections would of course prefer that he goes there in form.

Chantry House’s misfire at Kempton was a very rare occasion that he put a foot wrong.

He had gone into the fixture looking to complete a five-timer, so it’s not like he is difficult to excuse.

There were Grade 1 successes for Chantry House last season.

He had opened this season in an uncomplicated and strong style with a win at Sandown.

Chantry House is the 10/11 favourite in Cotswold Chase betting* (odds recorded at 19:45 GMT on January 29th, 2022 at Coral)

It won’t likely take very much to see him back on top of his game.

Can Aye Right make the step forward?

AYE RIGHT got his big breakthrough in chasing when he delivered the win in the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle a couple of months ago.

That’s just what he needed after repeatedly rattling the crossbar last season.

Aye Right is a solid chaser and now it will be very interesting to see if the 9-year-old can kick on from there.

Granted the victory at Newcastle was only a narrow one. But he is a battler and he is in good hands.

Aye Right is a quote of 9/2 in Cotswold Chase betting* (odds recorded at 19:45 GMT on January 29th, 2022 at Coral).

Simply The Betts should stay

There is a reasonable chance that SIMPLY THE BETTS will stay the distance on this long 3m 1f trip.

He was last seen in a Grade 3 handicap here at Cheltenham earlier this month.

That was on a 2m 5f trip in which he shaped very well, looking like he does have further in him.

Back in the 2019/20 season Simply The Betts really improved in chasing and now looks to be the season where he could put it all together.

Simply The Bets is a quote of 11/4 in Cheltenham horse racing betting* (odds recorded at 19:45 GMT on January 29th, 2022 at Coral).

Santini below his best

There was a difficult time for SANTINI last season as he didn’t look to be the force of old at all.

For the former winner of the Cotswold Chase and Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up, he’s a long way short of that level currently.

Santini was last seen in December for his new yard.

That was in a Cheltenham Grade 3 handicap in which he took a fourth-place finish.

It wasn’t a particularly warm contest and that likely leaves Santini out of contention on Saturday.

Santini is a quote of 12/1* (odds recorded at 19:45 GMT on January 29th, 2022 at Coral).

What can outsider Kauto Riko do?

From the position of the 50/1 outsider, KAUTO RIKO has a lot on his hands on Saturday at Cheltenham.

It looks improbable that his losing streak which goes back to 2018 is going to end.

His reappearance run was credible enough, but then he pulled up here at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day.

There may be very little in this for him.

Predictions & Tips for Cheltenham Cotswold Chase Racing Odds

One of the most interesting aspects of this race is going to see how SIMPLY THE BETTS and AYE RIGHT fare against each other.

They both look as if they have further progress in them to make and both bring solid claims of their own.

The latter could just shade the preference in a duel there if he can prove his stamina from a quote of 11/4* (odds recorded at 19:45 GMT on January 29th, 2022 at Coral).

As for the outright winner, it’s hard to see CHANTRY HOUSE getting topped.

He’s head and shoulders above the rest and the addition of cheekpieces is likely to get him back on track after that King George misfire.
