Champagne Platinum

Trainer Nicky Henderson has the favourite for this one in Champagne Platinum at 6/1* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 16:42 GMT on Wednesday 11th, 2020). He was last out in the competitive Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase and took a very credible third there from 40/1. Only Itchy Feet and Midnight Shadow were too good for him on the day. He looks likely to get in the frame.

Le Breuil
13/2

Le Breuil

Le Breuil was at Cheltenham last year winning the NH Chase. Things haven’t gone too smoothly there for him since though. There have been struggles this season with no place finish recorded from a hurdle and a couple of chase efforts.

He goes at the same mark as his win at the Festival last year and goes as 13/2 joint-favourite with some respect* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 16:42 GMT on Wednesday 11th, 2020). He has winning jockey Jamie Codd back. Codd has won this four times since 2009.

Key Facts – Challenge Cup Handicap Chase Betting Tip

  • All winners since 2009 carried more than 11st
  • All but one of the last nine winners were in headgear
  • 9 of the last 11 winners were from the top-six of the betting market

Kilfilum Cross

He was a competitor in last year’s race and only found Any Second Now too good on the day. He is a really consistent performer and warmed up well for his Cheltenham return with a second-place at Kempton (first time in cheekpieces).

The nine-year-old can handle the trip and looks a very good fit for place considerations at 11/1* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 16:42 GMT on Wednesday 11th, 2020).

Bob Mahler

Bob Mahler brings winning form with him to the table. He struck over an extended 4m chase at Musselburgh in January. He had been trending towards that with some improving form. Bob Mahler claimed a course and distance win in April last year to raise his claims.

Versatile and may prefer the long trip, but good considerations nonetheless at 22/1* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 16:42 GMT on Wednesday 11th, 2020)

Deise Aba

Deise Aba, trained by Philip Hobbs, has won his last two runs. Those were chase successes at Catterick and Sandown and the seven-year-old is coming along well. He seems much happier and stronger in chase action than he ever was over the hurdles.

Deise Aba looks as if he could be a decent contender at 7lb higher. He’s improving and is a contender at 9/1* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 16:42 GMT on Wednesday 11th, 2020)

Go Another One

Interesting claims are there for Go Another One who is a smart hurdler. He has been over the fences four times before, claiming a couple of wins in that. He has had a run at Cheltenham, claiming the third place in October behind Slate House. A solid battler and 25/1 may be underestimating him* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 16:42 GMT on Wednesday 11th, 2020).

Worthy Mentions

Plan Of Attack, trained by Henry De Bromhead has the potential to show well as he goes up 5lb following his Paddy Power Chase effort at Leopardstown in December. That was a fantastic run from the seven-year-old. He missed on a three-timer but looks extremely capable.

Gordon Elliot’s Milan Native has not managed to get a win in any of his five appearances over the fences. He has taken a second-place finish in his last two efforts, the most recent of which was at Gowran Park in February.

Fitzhenry was also in that super competitive Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown in December where he battled out a second-place finish. He dialled back his distance in his following run and had a stinker. Will be better back at the 3m mark.

Predictions & Tips

If he can keep the mistakes out, then Fitzhenry with jockey Patrick Mullins looks a great contender. He put in great work in that Paddy Power Chase, taking second ahead of Plan Of Attack. He’s a really game contender and can claim the win.

Deise Aba has been ticking along in nice form and can make an impression in this race. He took out some very strong competitors at Sandown on his latest trip and looks good after switching to chase action.

But for the favourite, it is Le Breuil who looks the pick of the bunch for us. Jamie Codd was in the saddle last year when they teamed up for the National Hunt Chase. They can get it together for this one as well.
