The RSA Insurance Novices’ Chase can be a stepping stone to Gold Cup glory, though recent winners have not yet proved themselves top be at the top of the staying tree.

Champ taken to live up to his name
Champ fell at Cheltenham in his prep race and was far from foot-perfect in earlier wins at Newbury but he certainly has an engine.
Second in last year’s Ballymore over hurdles at The Festival, he then won a Grade 1 over 3m at Aintree.
This will be his first run over fences over the longer trip and it may help his judge his fences better. Out to a general 7/2, is it a risk worth taking?
Allaho has untapped potential
After a couple of runs in relatively minor company, bookmakers don’t appear to know where Allaho stands in the Mullins pecking order.
It’s probably not wise to read too much into his defeat by Easy Game at Leopardstown but the general 9/2 gives little away in the company with his conqueror available at 12/1 with Unibet.
Indo out to record Festival victory number two
This is nearly always a war of attrition and MINELLA INDO may be equipped to cope better than most.
A best 10/3, Rachael Blackmore’s mount won the Albert Bartlett at The Festival last season and followed up in a Grade 1 at Punchestown when again beating Allaho.
Ground conditions are no problem and neither are fences judged on his two runs to date over the larger obstacles – he looks the one to beat.
Copperhead aims to strike a blow for the younger generation
The six-year-old Copperhead has made giants strides since winning a Wincanton handicap off a mark of 125 in December.
He was impressive in the Reynoldstown at Ascot last month but steps up another notch here.
While he is surely one to follow in the years ahead, this test may come too soon in his career and he’s only a best 9/2 with 888sport.
