Gambon grabs attention in Ministry Graphics Swansea Handicap

Horse Racing Betting

You would hardly describe the Ministry Graphics Swansea Handicap as a must-see contest or one that will hold significance in the weeks ahead. But the 7f race at Chepstow is the best on offer at the Welsh track and probably in the country as a whole on a Tuesday designed to let the racing fraternity draw breath after a busy few weeks.

Chepstow Facts and Figures

Chepstow’s galloping, oval-shaped track is about two miles in circumference.
It’s a track more associated with jumps racing but the course does normally have a busy summer of Flat racing. There is a run-in of 5f and the home straight is particularly undulating, rising and falling in equal measures before the winning post. Stamina is often a factor when the going is testing.
Trainers Clive Cox and Eve Johnson Houghton get plenty of winners in south Wales, especially with their older horses in handicaps. Rossa Ryan and Hector Crouch are among the most successful jockeys.

Ministry Graphics Swansea Handicap Current Best Odds

Marshal Dan 10/3
Oloroso 9/2
Absolutio 5/1
Lucky Louie, Gambon and Kitcarina 7/1
Mr Top Hat 11/1
Hawridge Storm 12/1

Ministry Graphics Swansea Handicap Predictions

Marshal Dan was no match for an improver at Kempton but still finished ahead of a subsequent winner.
The drop back to 7f may well suit Heather Main’s charge as he races keenly but a best ??? looks short enough in a competitive handicap.
Kitcarina didn’t win for Andre Fabre in France but Andrew Balding got a victory out of the mare at Kempton on her reappearance last year and she’s now joined Clive Cox, who had a couple of winners at Royal Ascot last week.
She’s far from exposed and still on a decent handicap mark so, as she’ll probably handle the forecast soft going better than most, is definitely worth a second look at 10/3 with Bet365.
Oloroso is a former stablemate but 0-11 on Turf and has only won once on the all-weather so makes limited appeal at 9/2 with Bet365.
Forseti is potentially well treated but almost certainly better on Fibresand nowadays and is 20/1 with Bet365 while the lack of a recent run is concerning for supporters of Absolutio (a general 5/1), having a first run for George Boughey, and Hawridge Storm (a general 12/1).
GAMBON won at Chepstow and Leicester last year. Both are galloping tracks and Charles Bishop’s mount would not have been suited by tackling the bend at Kempton on his return to action. He ran quite well, nevertheless, and that outing should have blown away any cobwebs. Dropped 2lb since, he must have decent claims at 7/1 with Bet365 on his second start of the year as long as the ground isn’t too testing.
