Japan 13/8 FAV In Ormonde Stakes betting

The 13/8 favourite for this Chester contest is JAPAN* (odds recorded at 21:12 GMT on May 5th, 2021 at Boylesports).

Will we see a big return to form from him? The last season was a bit of a bust for the dual Group 1 winner.

The best effort that he produced was a third in the Eclipse, otherwise, it was just a campaign to forget for Aiden O’Brien’s five year old.

But if he runs true to himself on his return, then Japan can destroy this field.

Japan takes a big drop in class for this run, so that puts him right on the radar and he is also coming up on a trip.

The son of Galileo will have a lot of eyes on him as more will be expected from him this season. With the sights lowered, it could be just the kind of contest needed to get himself going again.

Trueshan to mount a strong challenge

The threat of TRUESHAN is very real in this contest. He is currently trading as the 5/2 second-favourite in Ordmonde Stakes racing odds* (odds recorded at 21:12 GMT on May 5th, 2021 at Boylesports).

He produced a career-best effort to get the score in the Long Distance Cup on his final run of last year.

That was back in October. He will be seeking a hat-trick after closing out the previous campaign with back to back wins.

That Ascot success means that he poses a threat here. Will his chances be hampered by a 5lb rise in the ratings?

Trueshan does have a lot on his plate with that and won’t want the ground to dry out any further than it is.

Regardless, Trueshan should be heavily involved at the business end.

Morando not to be underestimated

The returning MORANDO also is of big interest. Back in 2019, he won this fixture on what was his reappearance.

That victory in the Ormonde Stakes happened in testing conditions as well. Morando is a quote of 4/1 to win this year’s renewal.

He’s very interesting as it is likely that Andrew Balding has him primed for a potential repeat.

Morando has not been seen since as the seventh palace finish in the Group 1 Preis Von Bayern at Munich in November.

He was well beaten in that one, but refreshed and recharged, along with having run well in defeats last season, Morando needs to be kept on side.

Can Sonnyboyliston make an impact?

We have had a good look at the big three in Ormonde Stakes racing odds, now it’s time to move down the pecking order a bit.

There was a good progressive previous campaign from SONNYBOYLISTON. However, the question marks about him at this level are there.

On his final run last season, Sonnyboyliston was put into Group 3 company at the Curragh and he was well held there.

He has had a reappearance run, a third-place finish at Naas, under his belt. The move to this distance could be a smart one.

But from 10/1 he is going to have to pull something special out of his hat* (odds recorded at 21:12 GMT on May 5th, 2021 at Boylesports).

Can Euchen Glen come on for his return?

EUCHEN GLEN was eighth on his seasonal reappearance 18 days ago. That was in a Group 3 contest at Newbury at 1m 4f in April.

He was heavily beaten in the contest, but it could have been a useful exercise ahead of stiffer challenges.

He was thriving last season, however, claiming a Group 3 win at both York and Newbury. Euchen Glen deals with a 3lb rise, but this is a track that should play to his strengths.

Rest of the runners

KIPPS was sixth on his reappearance, not disgraced at all in a warm contest there. He battled through a lot of very tough races last season.

Will that start to come to fruition? Kipps gets the cheekpieces refitted but he looks up against it in this company.

SEXTANT couldn’t find a winning touch last season. He produced some decent enough hurdles form, but nothing special enough to suggest that he can tear down this field.

There was a listed win here for him in 2019, but Sextant is likely to be a long way short.

WITHHOLD is more of a speedster and we don’t totally know what he’s doing here in this company at this distance. He needs shorter stuff and firmer ground as well.

He is a good front runner in the right conditions. These do not look to be those.

Predictions & Tips for Chester Ormonde Stakes Racing Odds

We are going with the 13/8 favourite JAPAN as our horse racing tip for the Ordmonde Stakes* (odds recorded at 21:12 GMT on May 5th, 2021 at Boylesports).

Yes, he has something to prove, but the five-year-old is in much calmer waters here than he is used to. If he is at his best, then no one is likely to touch him.

TRUESHAN is a wonderfully capable horse, but there is a 5lb rise that he is running under and we think that’s a slight hurdle for his chances of the win.

The other obvious selection is the 2019 winner MORANDO. He won that edition on his reappearance, can he do it again? He’s very interesting being this is going to be a clear target from his connections.
