Shantou Sisu
Shantou Sisu was a beaten favourite on his last run. He had been the 2/1 favourite for the 2m 3f trip here at Clonmel earlier this month but was beaten by a short head.
He has placed in five hurdle races and has to be knocking on the door for a win here after his near-miss last time at the venue.

Balkos
Balkos has placed three times in six hurdle races so that gives him some decent claims to at least push for a place in this one. He was third on his last trip which was a 2m 4f contest in January at Punchestown.
Balkos has looked promising in both handicap starts and was well backed at Punchestown. He looks as if he is getting there and is not looking too far from a win at 10/3* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 17:43 GMT on Monday, 23rd March 2020).
Mattie’s Mountain
There was a very respectable effort from Mattie’s Mountain on his last run at Thurles. That was earlier this month when he took a fourth-place finish in a handicap of 18 runners.
Mattie’s Mountain had been the 4/1 favourite for that. He continued some very solid form in that race and stays at the same mark, so he has every chance of getting in the frame, despite only placing once in eight starts.

Clody Valley
Clody Valley has yet to place and this will be his sixth competent. He did put in a decent enough effort on his last run which was a fifth of 14 at Wexford. That was on a 2m trip in a maiden hurdle.
But he hasn’t been out since that September run. Still, he seems to be heading in the right direction despite being unexposed and with well worth some considerations for this Clonmel action.

Sargent Lightfoot
There was a sixth-place finish for Sargent Lightfoot on his last trip which was a 2-mile effort at Thurles earlier this month. The six-year-old is looking for his first finish in the money.
He showed a lot of improvement in that Thurles trip however from a field of sixteen. Unfortunately for this, his handicap debut he is going to have to deal with being top weight.
Worthy Mentions
DREAMY LEAMY stays at the same mark as he was for a 2m handicap at Nass in February. He was ninth in the contest which was just about running in form from what was expected. Has a lot to find.
There was a 2m 3f maiden Hurdle win for QUARRY LIL in September last year at the venue. He made his chase debut at Thurles earlier this month and took a seventh-place finish. Comes with place claims at best for this one.
DE BENETTE claimed a 2m Clonmel win in January by eight lengths. That was her at her best, but she is very inconsistent. She hasn’t been in the frame in her two runs since then at all. If she can come back somewhere to the kind of form that she showed in January, she could stake a claim for a place.
Predictions & Tips
SHANTOU SISU is at the head of the market here after coming close to scoring less than three weeks ago at the venue. He will easily put in another bold claim to get that success.
BALKOS however, looks to be coming along very nicely and unlocking on the door. The drop in trip may help him out in this one and has every chance of challenging the favourite.
The other key name to get in the picture is MATTIE’S MOUNTAIN who narrowly missed last time out in a run that probably came a little too soon for him. Fourth over the distance at Thurles puts him in the frame at the same mark.
