Bitsandpieces

Bits And Pieces has won a couple of times over the hurdles but hasn’t struck in a chase yet. But he went well at the venue earlier this month when he was third behind Pound A Stroke in a field of six.

The eleven-year-old looks as if he could handle himself well in this kind of company. That is why he is up as the 2/1 favourite* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 16:12 GMT on Monday 23rd March 2020)

William Hill

Classic Concorde

Classic Concorde was a beaten favourite on his last trip. That was from 5/1 in a big field of 20 at Down Royal on a 3m trip. He hasn’t been out since that November run, however.

Classic Concorde comes in for his chase debut here and while the ground may not totally suit him, his current form over the hurdles should be good enough to put him in contention at 5/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 16:12 GMT on Monday 23rd March 2020). He’s not without appeal.

Empire Burleque

Trainer Gordon Elliot will be looking for some improvement from Empire Burleque in this one. The last win that the horse took was over three years ago. He finished near the back of the pack on a trip at Leopardstown earlier this month over a 2m 5f trip. That was his chasing debut. He has a lot to find on current form.

Chesterville

Back to back fourth place finishes is what Chesterville has delivered. The six-year old’s last run was from 15/2 at Limerick on a 2m 2f trip He is still looking for his first-place finish and this will be his ninth run.

This is the kind of company where he should be stepping up and finding a little bit extra, however. He looks like he is starting to adapt to chasing and goes in as an 8/1 option* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 16:12 GMT on Monday 23rd March 2020).

Global Fert

Another who is looking for some form is Global Fert. He is a former distance winner but he looks to have gone backwards over the last couple of seasons.

Global Fert has completed just two of his last five runs, the best of which was a third place in a hurdle at Gowran. He’s stepping into his chase debut at 7/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 16:12 GMT on Monday 23rd March 2020).

Worthy Mentions

CELTIC DANCER may be one worth watching. Last summer he won three handicap hurdles at Limerick, albeit in good conditions. He’s been off the track for half a year and comes back for what is a chasing debut.

There was a heavy defeat for FOX LE BEL on his last trip, which was his chase debut. That was the heaviest defeat of his career actually. He hasn’t been heavily worked and still adapting to life over the fences. This will show whether or not there is an improvement there.

CUSHINSTOWN FINEST stuck maiden hurdle success last September. She went on his debut chase from a big 33/1 market over a 2m 2f in the mud. She delivered a very respectable fifth-place finish, despite never really challenging the stronger competitors. But it was a run of promise, especially on her first tip in the mud.

Predictions & Tips

It is hard to look past BITSANDPIECES because of good form over hurdles and fences. No-one else in the field can bring that kind of quality and form to the table.

That having been said he struggled on his last trip at Clonmel in heavy going. But there just isn’t enough around to really take him out of the picture so he has to have heavy considerations for the win.

CLASSIC CONCORDE is well worth a look as well on his chase debut as the form has been there from him over the hurdles. He may be more comfortable over a longer trip on better ground, but he has some appeal in what is a relatively weak field.

Our outside nod will go to CUSHINSTOWN FINEST who showed a fair bit of promise in that fifth-place finish at Thurles recently. That was a great workout for her and can push for a place in this kind of company.
