Connah’s Quay looked to be heading out of the first qualifying round. They had lost the first leg at home 2-1 against Scottish side Kilmarnock. The consolation goal that they got proved crucial in the end. Having to go up to McDiarmid Park for the second leg, even the Welsh club themselves recognised that they had a massive uphill struggle ahead of them. But they did it. They got the tie back level early in the second half and that just made Kilmarnock nervous. Connah’s Quay started to play a bit and ended up converting a 79th-minute penalty to secure a 2-0 win. Both sides had a man sent off in the match.

Kilmarnock saw red in giving away the penalty before the Nomads lost a man five minutes from time. But the Welsh club held on for a major upset. This is just their fourth campaign in Europe. This is just the second time that they have won a tie now, adding to their first qualifying round success in the 2016/17 European League qualifiers. Their overall record in Europe now reads W3 D1 L6 from ten. Two of those three wins have been away from home. The Nomads have faced Serbian opposition before, losing in the 2016/17 second qualification round against Vojvodina 3-1 on aggregate.

Partizan Belgrade News and Form

Partizan are making their entry into the competition in this second qualification round. They had started in the first qualifying round last season and ran to the playoffs where they were beaten by Besiktas. They have seen competitive action as they took a 1-0 win in their opening game for their new domestic season on the weekend. So that will have been a welcome work out for match fitness against of this trip to Wales.

Partizan have suffered just one defeat in their last eight games now, winning five of those eight. That was from their four games of last season’s qualification campaign. The one defeat that they suffered in that sequence was a heavy 3-0 loss at Besiktas in the playoff round. Partizan Belgrade have suffered only two defeats in their last fourteen European fixtures. They are facing a gutsy underdog who believe  in themselves. But still, the Serbians are expected to win this match.
