Things seem to be rapidly falling apart for the Labour Party as there has been some increased pressure for party leader Jeremy Corbyn to resign. Monday saw a spate of resignations from Labour MP’s in protest of his leadership and the increasing criticism that the party has been receiving about being anti-Semitic.

Next Labour Leader Odds*

Emily Thornberry 5/1
Keir Starmer 7/1
Angela Rayner 8/1
Rebecca Long-Bailey 12/1
John McDonnell 16/1
Yvette Cooper 22/1
Clive Lewis 25/1
Lisa Nandy 25/1
Tom Watson 28/1
Chris Williamson 33/1
Sadiq Khan 33/1

Things like that are not going to happen without a reaction from the bookmakers and punters alike. A 2019 exit for Corbyn from his position has been trimmed from 5/2 down to 9/4 since the news of seven party members resignations broke* (betting odds taken from bet365 on February 18th, 2019 at 5:24 pm).

The option of a 2022 departure for Corbyn has gone on the drift to 5/2* (betting odds taken from bet365 on February 18th, 2019 at 5:24 pm) because of the support for an early exit.

So is this going to be the final year of Corbyn’s leadership?

There has been a lot going on. Some party members are unhappy about how he has handled the planning of Brexit and there have been several rows arising about anti-Semitism. The seven MP’s who resigned from the party are simply going to sit in Parliament still as part of the Independent Group.

But that is a show of weakness in the party and that all falls on the shoulders of Corbyn. That will likely have another knock on effect with Labour going out to 3/1 to win the next General Election from 11/4* (betting odds taken from bet365 on February 18th, 2019 at 5:24 pm).
