Croatia U21 News and Form

Croatia’s campaign was pretty much ended at the first hurdle. They came out and lost 4-1 against Romania in their opening game. Croatia had fallen 2-0 down in the first fifteen minutes of the game. They then took on France in their second fixture and battled much better, falling to a 1-0 defeat. This return to the Euro U21 Finals has ended a 15-year absence for them. They have never before won a fixture at the Finals holding a W0 D2 L6 record from their previous eight games. Only a win will see them not finish bottom.

Croatia had put together a strong qualification campaign, posting a W8 D1 L1 record. They had put together a really strong finish as well, winning their final four games with fourteen unanswered goals across them. Their one goal of the tournament so far was netted by former Everton player Nikola Vlasic. Not only will Croatia be on the search for their first ever win at the U21 European Championships, but they will also be targeting their first ever success over England a this level as well.

Key-Facts – Croatia U21 v England U21

  • The Young Lions have won just 3 of their last 15 group stage games

England U21 News and Form

The mistakes that England have made at the tournament have been big, costly ones. Hamza Choudhury was sent off in their opener against France, allowing the French to battle back from a 1-0 deficit to beat England 2-1. England were dealt the final blow in that game with Aaron Wan-Bissaka scoring an own goal deep into stoppage time. If that finish had been disastrous enough, their ending to the second game was probably a little bit worse. England met Romania for a must-win game in their second fixture.

The Young Lions conceded the first goal in the 76th minute from the penalty spot, but they got back level immediately. England equalised rapidly as Romania took the lead again in the 85th minute. But then England collapsed in defence again at the end, conceding twice more in the 89th and 93rd minutes to lost 4-2. This has been a really disappointing return considering England have a strong squad and were semi finalists two years ago. England are just W3 D4 L8 in their last fifteen group stage games at the tournament. Their defensive failures have been a surprise as they conceded just four goals in their ten qualification matches.

Croatia U21 v England U21 Predictions

England to win: England are better than what they have shown so far at the tournament. This is a non-competitive game and these types of fixture can be hard to get a read on. But we will lean towards the quality of the Young Lions to end the tournament on a positive note. England to win.
