Crystal Palace News and Form – Can the Eagles deliver a win at home against Villa?

Crystal Palace was one of the star performers of the Premier League last weekend. They defied some big odds to collect a 2-1 win at Old Trafford against Manchester United. Few would have seen that result coming really. The Eagles had only taken one point from their opening two games of the campaign and had failed to hit the back of the net in either of them. That was a 0-0 draw against Everton and a 1-0 loss against Sheffield United.

So to turn that form on its head and pick up a win at Old Trafford was totally out of the blue. Jordan Ayew and Patrick van Aanholt got their goals. Can they make it back to back wins this weekend? They do look as if they are going to have goalscoring problems this season, so they will be hoping that the Old Trafford success wasn’t just a one-off performance. Crystal Palace had a bit of an embarrassing League Cup exit in midweek at the hands of Colchester. Joel Ward, Jeffrey Schlupp and Van Aarnholt were all ruled out of action in midweek because of injury.

Under 1.5 goals
5/2

Betfair

Under 2.5 goals has happened in five of Crystal Palace’s last six games against Aston Villa in all competitions. So this may be a tight battle. It was just a poor W5 D5 L9 record at Slerurt Park in the Premier League that Roy Hodgson’s men recorded last season. They only averaged exactly a goal per game on home soil last season, but they weren’t horrendous by any means in defence. Just 32% of Premier League games at Selhurst Park went over 2.5 goals last season.

Aston Villa News and Form – Can Villa take three points at Selhurst Park

The Villains have produced good enough stuff to suggest that they can survive in the top flight this season. They have only three points on the board, but they have been playing well and growing into the campaign. Villa earned a superb 2-0 win over Everton last weekend. Before that, they produced competitive games against Spurs and Bournemouth despite being defeated by both of them.

There has been defensive mistakes from them, but they will likely trim those down. They were excellent against Everton last weekend, with Wesley opening the scoring in the first half before Anwar El Ghazi sealed the game in the final minute. A different player has scored each of Villa’s four goals in the top flight this season. It’s a good fixture list in the immediate future for Villa, with Arsenal being the only top six team they will face. So there’s a good chance that Villa can get some momentum.

Villa did open the scoring in their one away game this season, which was at Spurs. They looked well set for a draw in the game, but then conceded two late goals. In midweek Aston Villa stepped out in the EFL Cup and smashed six goals past Crewe. Villa made ten changes for that game form their win over Everton. They should easily be competitive in his fixture. They have a wonderful attack with Wesley, Jota and Trezeguet, which is likely to bring them goals.
