Crystal Palace v Southampton Betting Preview – Premier League 16th September 12.30pm

The Eagles have to pull themselves out of their mess quickly. Four games into the season, no goals, no points and now a change of manager. Frank de Boer quickly got the boot from the club and they have replaced him with Roy Hodgson. Will his pragmatic ways getting the Eagles going or will Southampton be able to roll into the capital and strike while the Selhurst Park crew are still trying to find their feet?

Crystal Palace v Southampton Betting Tips

Nothing has gone the way of Crystal Palace so far this season. Not even when they actually managed to put in a good performance away at Burnley last weekend, did things happen for them. How they failed to score and win that game is a mystery. But that was their fourth defeat in four games and they are still searching for their first goal of the season. Results are the only things that count in football though and Palace have none that are positive and they are stuck to the bottom of the table. With everything that has been going on with them, under 2.5 goals at Coral fetches a price of 4/6, while under 1.5 may have appeal at 2/1. The Eagles were quick to sack Frank de Boer and it is Roy Hodgson who is coming in as a replacement for him. Palace have won their last two on home soil against Southampton and both of those victories were to nil as well. Southampton are the shorter price of the two to win to nil, trading at 3/1 with Coral. Christian Benteke, who looked a bit of a passenger this season, is 6/4 favourite in the anytime goalscorer market.

The Saints have five points from their four games and haven’t been going great guns themselves really. But they can offer more of an attacking threat than the Eagles in this one and the visitors have Charlie Austin as a 7/4 anytime goalscorer option, with Manolo Gabbiadini and Shane Long at 11/4. The Saints have gone W1 D2 L1 for the season and three of those games were at St Mary’s. Their only away fixture this season so far saw them held to a 0-0 draw against Huddersfield and in the Coral correct score market a 0-0 draw is a 15/2 price while the shortest priced option is the 1-1 draw at 11/2. Two of Southampton’s four games this season have ended in a 0-0 draw and Southampton have only scored in one of their four games played so far. They lost 2-0 at home against Watford last weekend so need to find a response to that. Southampton lost this corresponding fixture 3-0 last season but took wins over Palace in their other league meeting and in the EFL Cup. Southampton are W3 L1 in their last four games in all competitions against Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace v Southampton Predictions

Draw: The Saints lost this corresponding game last season and they do not look like a huge scoring threat themselves. The Eagles should be a little more organised in getting back to basics and they may just be able to pick up their first point of the season.
