Crystal Palace News and Form – Will Palace beat Derby?

The Eagles have only lost one of their last eight games in all competitions and that one loss in the sequence was away from home. So they could be in good shape for the challenge that lies ahead of them in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday. In their last three fixtures at Selhurst Park, they have picked up a W2 D1 record. While they are a low scoring side themselves, they generally look a very solid and well-organised team at the back.

What about their FA Cup form? It’s not too bad either at Selhurst Park. They have won their last two such fixtures there, taking clean sheet victories over Grimsby and Tottenham. The Eagles have collected a win in five of their last seven on home soil (L2). Given that they have seen off lower-tiered opposition in the last few seasons, then Roy Hodgson’s men look a very good option. Both teams have not scored in any of the last three FA Cup fixtures at Selhurst Park, which may be a trend worth noting.

  • The Rams won at EPL side Southampton last season
  • The Eagles have lost just one of their last seven home games in the FA Cup in 90 minutes

Derby News and Form – Can the Rams beat Crystal Palace?

This looks to be a tough game for Derby. After getting so close to earning promotion to the Premier League at the end of last season, things have been a struggle for them in the Championship this go around. They are sat down in the bottom half of the second tier table, despite winning their last two games. Those victories though have, of course, eased some pressure off of them.

The bulk of their league successes have been on home soil however. The Rams have a very poor W1 D4 L7 away record in league action this season. So that has to raise major doubts about their ability to win away at a Premier League side. Last season the Rams did win a fourth-round tie away at Southampton in replay via a penalty shoot-out. But two rounds later they suffered a loss at Brighton. In their last four visits to top-flight opposition, the Rams have been D2 L2 at 90 minutes.

Crystal Palace vs Derby Predictions

Palace to win: The Eagles would have to be backed to get through the tie. Derby are just a little too unstable away from Pride Park to warrant backing. Crystal Palace are not a free-scoring side so backing a home win by a one-goal margin looks a good fit.
