Darlington vs Walsall Betting Tips – Emirates FA Cup, 20th November 19.45pm

Darlington and Walsall meet in an Emirates FA Cup first round replay at Blackwell Meadows on Wednesday night. The National League North side earned their replay by holding the EFL League Two outfit to a 2-2 draw at the Bescot Stadium. The winners of this one will take on EFL League One high flyers Oxford United in round two. Can the hosts cause an upset, or will the Football League team be too strong?

Darlington News and Form – Can Darlo cause an upset on home turf?

Alun Armstrong’s Darlington are in 14th place in the National League North table at the moment. The Quakers, who reformed only seven years ago, have won six, lost seven and drawn three of their 16 league fixtures.

In the FA Cup, Darlington have reached the first round stage by beating Trafford 3-1, Leamington 2-0 and Tamworth 3-0. The victory over Trafford back in September was Darlo’s first FA Cup victory for over five years.

Promotion to the National League will be the number one priority for the Quakers this season. However, after performing so well at the Bescot in the first game, Darlington will fancy their chances of pulling off an FA Cup upset at Blackwell Meadows on Wednesday. With a home game with Karl Robinson’s Oxford to look forward to in the next round, Darlington would love to win this one.

Darlington vs Walsall Head to Head

Since Darlington reformed, the FA Cup meeting at the Bescot was the first game between the pair for over a decade

Darlo have won just one of the last ten league and cup meetings

The duo drew 0-0 when they last squared off in league action back in 2007

The Quakers battled to a 2-2 draw at the Bescot earlier in the month

Key-Facts – Darlington vs Walsall

  • Darlo recently won four in a row but are without a win in three
  • The Saddlers have won their last two
  • Walsall have lost three in a row away from home, conceding seven and scoring two

Walsall News and Form – Will Clarke’s troops get the job done this time?

Darrell Clarke’s Walsall hover just above the relegation zone in League Two at present. The Midlands outfit have had a difficult start, winning only five of 18 league games thus far. Meanwhile, the Saddlers have already been beaten ten times in League Two this term.

With Walsall struggling in the league, an FA Cup replay at a tough non-league ground would have been last on their wish list at the moment. Darlington more than matched Clarke’s boys when they met at the Bescot recently. However, Walsall have won their last two, seeing off Forest Green Rovers 6-0 in the Football League Trophy and beating Cambridge United 2-1 in league action.

Walsall beat the likes of Coventry City and Sunderland before being thumped by Bolton Wanderers in the FA Cup last season, but the Saddlers have won just two of their last eight FA Cup matches. Can the fourth tier outfit avoid a cup upset on Wednesday?

Darlington vs Walsall Predictions

Walsall win: In the FA Cup game at the Bescot, Omar Holness gave Darlo a surprise lead in the first half. However, the game didn’t get going until the last ten minutes, with three goals and two red cards sparking the tie into life. With Walsall 2-1 up, Josef Wheatley’s goal in the 97th minute of the match earned Darlo a deserved replay.

After conceding at the death in the first fixture, Walsall will be desperate to put things right in this one. This could be close, but my money is going on the away victory at 17/20. Also, check out the decent price of 13/5 for Walsall to win and both teams to score at Blackwell Meadows.
