Will Chisnall deliver as favourite?
Chizzy hasn’t been in bad form at all this season in terms of televised tournaments. His best effort came at the World Grand Prix where he was a runner up. With a semi-final at the Masters and three other quarter-final efforts this season, he’s in pretty good shape. Chisnall has been to the quarter-final stage of two of the last three editions of the PDC World Championship as well.
Head to head
Chisnall and van der Voort have met three times before and the head to head is even at three wins each. Chisnall lost to the Dutchman at the 2017 World Championships in the first round in their only previous meeting in the tournament.
Can the Dutch Destroyer Progress?
Vincent van der Voort has already been up to the oche at the tournament. He was up against young Irish lad Keane Barry in the first round and he swept his opponent 3-0. While that was a potential banana skin, this is going to get much tougher for the Dutchman. His record in both the BDO and PDC versions of the World Championships is unspectacular at best. On the PDC he has never been past the quarters, his most recent venture there happening in 2015. He has, however, made the third round in three of his last four attempts.
Prediction & Tip
Chisnall should have the darts over van der Voort. The three-dart average of VVDV wasn’t great in the first round. Chizzy should get the job done and a 3-1 correct score on the Englishman is at 5/2 odds* (Betting odds taken from bet365 on December 17th, 2019 at 5:18 pm)
