David Haye v Tony Bellew Odds and Preview – Boxing Betting May 5

Bellew capable of upsetting the odds a second time

David Haye has publicly stated that he will retire from boxing if he fails to stop old rival Tony Bellew at the O2 Arena in London this weekend.

The ‘Hayemaker’ wants to make the world’s best heavyweights sit up and take notice but is all the rhetoric just bluster?

Let’s be honest, at 37, Haye is not going to be on any promoter’s short-list for a world title shot if he loses again to Bellew, who shocked him with an 11th-round stoppage just over a year ago. Haye could blame an Achilles injury for that defeat and is only a general 1/2 to take his revenge but the former cruiserweight and heavyweight world champion and his nemesis look very closely matched.

Their win-to-fight ratio is almost identical and they’ve lost a similar amount of bouts. Physically, the two men are similar in height, reach and stature. Bellew is two years younger than Haye but the latter has knocked out more opponents than the Scouser and has undoubtedly been in the ring with stronger opposition.

In the first fight between these two, Bellew was in front on all three judges’ cards when he stopped his man so I would definitely be interested in the 15/8 with Betfred for him to win again and bring down the curtain on Haye’s career. This rematch has already been postponed once because Haye injured his arm and it’s not the first time the Londoner has suffered health issues – he was advised to give up boxing in 2013 after shoulder surgery.

He knows he is in the last-chance saloon and has been ramping up the pressure on Bellew with various stunts and statements but Bomber has been determined to keep his distance and not get caught up in a slanging match. It’s still personal but is also business and the WBC cruiserweight champion wants to do his talking in the ring.

This is unlikely to go the distance and I don’t think that Haye is the fighter he once was. Bellew doesn’t have his class but knows how to hit and take a punch and it would be no surprise if he suckered Haye into carelessness in the second half of the fight. Bellew is 7/2 with 10Bet to win by KO, TKO or Disqualification.

Incidentally, Betway will refund all losing bets on their Round betting in this fight as a free bet up to £10.
