Dell Technologies Championship Winner Odds & Predictions

McIlroy back in the frame at TPC Boston

Golf Betting

The FedEx Cup Play Offs move on to the Dell Technologies Championship this week (formerly the Deutsche Bank). The field is now down to the final 100 on the FedEx Cup rankings after last week’s action at the Northern Trust which was won by Bryson Dechambeau by four shots over Tony Finau.

The field this week will see the return of Rory McIlroy who took a skip last week. It is Dustin Johnson, who was the favourite for last week’s opening tournament of the FedEx Cup Play Offs who is back at the head of the market.

He is the 8/1 favourite by a couple of marks over Justin Thomas* (betting odds take on August 27th, 2018 at 11:03 pm). The Dell Technologies Championship is being hosted in Massachusetts at TPC Boston, a course which was designed by Arnold Palmer.

Right out of the gate, some of the big names in the field look a very good fit to start with. Of them, the pair of Henrik Stenson and Rory McIlroy both have won at the course before. Then you have Justin Thomas who is the reigning champion at TPC Boston and then there is Patrick Reed who has fired off three straight top-six finishes in a row at the course. So there is a lot to dig into there.

McIlroy and Stenson could both afford to take a pass last week and that is just what they did. So they are coming back fresh and raring to go. McIlroy had had two top-six finishes in his last three outings but sandwiching those results was a 28th and a 50th place finish. He was the 2016 winner at the event adding to his opening success there in 2002. So it’s not a bad record that he goes off on.

Henrik Stenson took his success in the tournament in 2013. He took a T20 at the Wyndham Championship recently before sitting out the Northern Trust. He hasn’t been in the winner’s circle Stateside in a fairly quiet 2018 for him and we don’t see that changing in this one. But we are going to back his steady hand to come and land a top ten finish at 13/5 odds* (betting odds take on August 27th, 2018 at 11:03 pm). He is a horse for the course.

Thomas & Koepka continue strong form

We have the same thought about Patrick Reed as well who is a chunky 3/1 odds option for a top ten finish* (betting odds take on August 27th, 2018 at 11:03 pm). We don’t see him driving out to a win here as he hasn’t had a strong August with a T28 at the Bridgestone, a missed cut at the PGA Championship and a T25 last week. With three straight top ten finishes at this tournament though he is good enough and reliable enough to jump on the back of.

We liked the look of Justin Thomas to continue a strong season last week and he delivered a top ten finish. He is in some form and is right up there at the head of the market this week as well. He is just in peak form right now following his missed cut at The Open back in July. He won the Bridgestone and took back to back top ten finishes at the PGA Championship and last week at the Northern Trust Open. He is the reigning champion here so we feel we can cut him down to 9/4 odds on a top-five finish* (betting odds take on August 27th, 2018 at 11:03 pm).

Brooks Koepka had a really good time of things at the Northern Trust last week where he was jointly leading the way at the start of Saturday. He is going to have a lot of appeal again because he is just producing very steady stuff at the moment and he has his driver working so sweetly. The other player we are going to consider at a bigger price this week has to be Tommy Fleetwood who is just a workhorse and keeps producing the goods. He got a T20 last week and his consistency screams some value at 5/2 for a top ten finish* (betting odds take on August 27th, 2018 at 11:03 pm).

Predictions

Another wonderfully competitive field here and you have some stand out names who fit the course and are carrying form. We are going to skip over the first two at the head of the market with Dustin Johnson not his usual dialled-in self with the irons last week and this tournament has never been successfully defended so we are passing on Thomas.

McIlroy is the all-time earnings leader at the course and should be fresher after his mental break. He appeals the most to us out of the main contingent at the head of the betting market.

But for us, the value in the field is the bigger odds option of Fleetwood, who is in the zone at the moment and someone we haven’t mentioned. Our each way odds option at 30/1* (betting odds take on August 27th, 2018 at 11:03 pm) is Patrick Cantlay who not only took a T13 on his debut here last year, but he landed a very solid top ten finish at the Northern Trust last week.
