Derby County v Cardiff City Predictions & Betting Odds – 13th September 2019

All square between the Rams & Bluebirds

Derby County v Cardiff City Betting Tips – EFL Championship, 13th September 19.45pm

Phillip Cocu’s Derby County and Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City meet in the EFL Championship at Pride Park on Friday night. The Rams will be desperate for all three points having not won in the league since the opening weekend of the season. Meanwhile, the Bluebirds have picked up just one point on their travels since dropping down from the Premier League. This is always a feisty fixture, but which way will it go at Pride Park?

Derby County News and Form – Can the Rams make the most of being on home soil?

Phillip Cocu’s reign at Derby County got off to the perfect start, as a Tom Lawrence brace gave the Rams a 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium. Since then, though, the Midlands outfit have failed to win any of their subsequent five Championship encounters.

Before the international break, Derby were thumped by Brentford at Griffin Park. Cocu’s men were well off the pace in London, with goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Ollie Watkins (2) giving Thomas Frank’s Bees a comfortable 3-0 win.

Derby have struggled to make an impact at home so far this season, failing to win any of their first three at Pride Park. Sandwiched in between draws with Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion was a 2-1 defeat to Bristol City. Last season, only Sheffield United and Norwich City – who were both promoted to the Premier League – picked up more home points (both 49) than the Rams’ 46.

Cocu may have only been at Pride Park for a couple of months, but the pressure is already starting to build up on the Dutchman’s shoulders. Derby could really do with a home win on Friday night.

Cardiff City News and Form – First away win for the Bluebirds?

Cardiff City have made an indifferent start to life back in the Championship, winning two, drawing two and losing two of six so far. The Bluebirds have been strong at home, picking up seven points, but they have lost two and drawn one of their three away matches.

Since beating Huddersfield 2-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium in late August, Cardiff have failed to win any of their last three league and cup affairs. They were embarrassed by Luton Town in the Carabao Cup, losing 3-0 at home, and they have drawn with Blackburn Rovers (0-0) and Fulham (1-1) in the league.

Before the international break, Warnock’s troops battled to a 1-1 draw with Fulham at the Cardiff City Stadium. Despite seeing far less of the ball, the Bluebirds took the lead through Josh Murphy. Shortly after, though, Aleksandar Mitrovic levelled for Scott Parker’s boys. In the end, the 1-1 stalemate was probably the right result.

Cardiff won at Leicester City, Southampton, Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester United in the Premier League last term, but they have taken just one point from three away games back in the Championship up until now. Can they pick up their first away win since beating Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils 2-0 at Old Trafford on the final day of last season?

Derby County v Cardiff City Predictions

Draw: With Derby looking for their first home victory, while Cardiff have yet to win on the road, this one really could go either way at Pride Park. The Rams have struggled to get going under their new boss, accumulating just six points so far. The Bluebirds have not fared much better, collecting eight from six games. Because of those stats, I can see this fixture ending all square, which you can get at 12/5.

Derby have netted in both of their home matches since drawing 0-0 with Swansea on matchday two. Cardiff have failed to register in their last two away games, although they have scored seven in their opening six Championship encounters. Put some money on the draw and both teams to score at 10/3.
