Derby County News and Form – Six points out of six for Cocu?

Derby County started their new era under Phillip Cocu with three points on the opening weekend. Tom Lawrence was the hero for the Rams, netting twice in the 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium. The Terriers pulled one back after 30 minutes, but County held on for a big three points in Yorkshire.

Derby reached the play-off final last term, eventually losing out to Aston Villa at Wembley Stadium, and the club will be aiming to finish in the top six under Cocu this season. Ahead of this weekend’s home clash with the Swans, the Rams are priced at 7/4 to finish in the play-off positions. Meanwhile, you can get them at 5/1 for promotion.

Derby were very strong at Pride Park last season, losing only three times in the Championship on their own patch. Meanwhile, County picked up 13 home league wins, scoring 40 and conceding 20 in the process. Can Derby make Pride Park a fortress once again this season?

After last Monday’s impressive win at Huddersfield, Derby will be gunning for six points from a possible six with victory over Swansea at the weekend.

Swansea City News and Form – Can the Swans pick up a positive result at Pride Park?

A lot has changed at the Liberty Stadium over the summer, with Steve Cooper coming in after Graham Potter departed for Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion. Meanwhile, several big players have left South Wales, including Jordan Ayew, Oli McBurnie, Wilfried Bony and Wayne Routledge.

In the other direction, the likes of Jake Bidwell, Aldo Kalulu, Sam Surridge and Ben Wilmot have signed on the dotted line at the Liberty Stadium. However, have the club done enough business to challenge for a top-six spot?

In Cooper’s first game in charge of the club last weekend, Swansea secured a home win over Hull City. The Welsh outfit made a woeful start, conceding in just the third minute. However, early second-half strikes by Borja Baston and Mike van der Hoorn turned the game on its head.

Swansea would love to follow up last weekend’s home triumph over Hull with an away win at Derby on Saturday. That will not be a straightforward task, however, as the Swans are priced at 5/2 to pick up the points in the Midlands.

Derby County v Swansea City Predictions

Derby County win: On paper, this should be a win for Derby. As I mentioned, the Rams were excellent at home under Frank Lampard last term, and they have already won with Cocu at the helm this season. Put some money on County to prevail at 5/4. There’s also good value in Derby to run out 2-1 winners at the big price of 8/1.
