Derby News and Form

Derby pulled off a dramatic win out at Norwich on the weekend. They were trailing with around five minutes left on the clock but scored two late goals to get a 4-3 win. They needed that result as well as they were winless in three (D2 L1) before that. The Rams are on a three-match undefeated streak at Pride Park in the Championship. They have drawn their last two there.

On home soil, they have come up with 17 goals and have conceded 13. That has helped them towards a decent W6 D4 L2 record at home this season. Derby have earned a clean sheet in a third of their home games this season so have done well at the back. They have failed to hit the back of the net in 25% of their home games so far this season.

This is a big three points up for grabs with Boro sitting level on points with them. Four of Derby’s six home victories in the Championship have been by a two-goal margin. Derby have been drawing at half time in seven of their twelve home games (W3 L2). Derby have opened the scoring in four of their dozen home fixtures. There is no let up in tough games for them as they face current leaders Leeds next.

Derby v Middlesbrough Head to Head

There was a 1-1 draw between them at the Riverside back in October
Derby have won just one of the last eight against Boro (D2 L5)
Derby are winless in three at home against Boro (D1 L2)
Both teams have scored in just three of the last eight meetings

Middlesbrough News and Form

Boro collected a victory at home against bottom side Ipswich on Saturday to lift them on to a W3 D2 L3 record in their last six league outings. Away from the Riverside, they have posted a W5 D5 L2 this season. Out on their travels this season they haven’t taken a win in any of their three games so far against teams currently in the top eight. Boro have scored 14 goals on their travels this season and they have only conceded nine away goals.

That is an average of 0.75 goals per road game against them. Just 33% of their away games this season have gone over 2.5 goals because of Boro’s defensive strengths. Boro have done well defensively with a clean sheet in 42% of away games. A slip up out at QPR back in the middle of December is their only defeat in their last eight games on the road. Middlesbrough have been level at half time in seven of their twelve away games so that’s a strong trend.

Broo have hit the back of the net in each of their last four away games, but each of their last three games (home and away) have gone under 2.5 goals. Boro have scored 71% of their away goals in the second period of matches. They have actually opened the scoring in half of their away games. No team has conceded fewer league goals than Boro this season in the Championship.

Derby v Middlesbrough Predictions

Derby to win: Derby to win to nil looks a good fit for this one. That was some win they produced at Norwich on the weekend and they will want to take their chance at home against a fellow top-six contender. The Rams can edge it.
