Rosenborg have never been up against Croatian opponents before. The Norwegians won the domestic league title last season for the fourth year running. They have been in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League eleven times before, but it has been over a decade since they were last there (2007). Since that 2007 appearance, Rosenborg have been eliminated from the qualifiers five times including last season where Celtic beat then.
