It is a small field to look at for the first race in this Doncaster racing preview for Friday. ALMAREEKH is the 10/11 favourite* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:12 GMT on Thursday, 10th September 2020).

She easily sets the standard in this one as she is on a four-timer at the moment. Almareekh is still progressing for trainer Sir Michael Stoute and is improving with each race.

The last score for Almareekh was at Doncaster in July.

It’s a small field so we will take only one more name for it. That will be SORREL who easily looks to be the biggest threat to the favourite.

She has been really improving with each appearance this season, culminating in a score at Leicester last time out. That was a comfortable win so there should be more to come from her.

At the head of the field for this handicap is ALFAATIK at 15/8* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:12 GMT on Thursday, 10th September 2020). He bagged a win for trainer John Gosden on his return to action last month.

That was his handicap debut and it came in York. That was a return after 15 months away from action, during which he was gelded. That wasn’t a great pace in that race by any stretch of the imagination though.

CALCULATION looks a big contender here as he did get a course and distance win last year. He had a pretty good warm up for this race as he secured second place in a Sandown trip.

So he will be all the more improved for that and he should be a big player at 6/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:12 GMT on Thursday, 10th September 2020).

SLEEPING LION still looks a decent threat as he comes back to defend his crown in this race. He has been knocking on the door recently as well, with back to back places, so he’s in great shape for this Doncaster revisit. He’s on a decent enough mark.

It is GHALYOON heading up the field for this handicap at 5/2* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:12 GMT on Thursday, 10th September 2020). He returned to action recently with a second place in a field of eleven.

That was a handicap effort at Doncaster, so that was a good workout on his first run since wind surgery too. Ghalyoon was also making his return after 13 months away to win that one. He should be in the frame.

SUNSET BREEZE gets the nod as the pick in this wide-open contest though from 9/2* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:12 GMT on Thursday, 10th September 2020).

It has been a very good campaign from him, winning three of five trips. He was in sharp form in taking second at Ascot recently and he is at the same mark.

MUSICALITY may be able to play his way into the picture for Richard Varian as well. It has been two wins from four after scoring at Newmarket a couple of weeks ago. There was a great finish from him there. This is a tougher race but should flourish under the extra test of stamina.

The race favourite for this juvenile contest is SACRED at 7/4 so there should be plenty of support for him* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:12 GMT on Thursday, 10th September 2020).

He scored on his debut and then rattled the crossbar in his following two trips. He was only just touched off in the Lowther Stakes in his most recent run, which was at York. It’s likely Sacred will be comfortable dropping back to the minimum distance here.

THE LIR JET is coming along nicely as well, having opened with back to back wins including during the Royal Ascot meeting in the Norfolk Stakes. Last time out he claimed second place in the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh. He’s another that should thrive back at 5f.

The other pick for the race will be STEEL BULL who can shake off an excusable defeat last time out at the Phoenix Stakes. He has scored at the Molecomb Stakes before that, his second win in just three racetrack appearances and we feel he’s worth serious consideration at 6/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:12 GMT on Thursday, 10th September 2020).

This is the big one of the day and the Doncaster Cup Stakes favourite is SPANISH MISSION at 15/8* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:12 GMT on Thursday, 10th September 2020). He secured a great Listed win at Chester three weeks ago.

That was on his first run for his new yard and is in good hands with Andrew Balding. The conditions were just right for him there and his other notable run this season was a second place in a Sandown Group 3 at 2m.

Easily beaten into second place last time out by SPANISH MISSION was SELINO. But he could get the chance to turn the tables on his opponent in this one. The conditions and extra trip are more likely to play to his strengths than the race favourite and is one to watch from 11/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:12 GMT on Thursday, 10th September 2020).

The other pick for this race has to be REVOLVER who is looking something special. He is red hot at the moment with six wins from six. He takes a considerable rise in difficulty for this race, but Sir Mark Prescott’s exciting youngster will still likely give a great account of himself.

The race favourite for this exciting contest is ONE RULER at 6/4* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:12 GMT on Thursday, 10th September 2020). He showed a great turn of speed to finish powerfully for a score at Sandown in July.

That was on his second racetrack appearance having only found one too good on that same course and distance (a winner who has since gone on to win at Group 3). So there are huge claims from One Ruler here.

This is such a good-looking race. SPYCATCHER could get in the frame here after a drop down in class from having completed at York’s Molecomb. He was second in that contest, but put in an absolutely brilliant run.

We aslo fancy the big each way odds on APOLLO ONE who was third in the Group 3 Solario Stakes last time out and wasn’t disgraced at all up at that level. She launched a big, bold attack from the front and has a decent chance of showing in this one.

TAWAAREQ is the frontrunner for this one at 6/4* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:12 GMT on Thursday, 10th September 2020). We can’t find any reason to argue with that either as he made a good debut.

He claimed fifth in a field of sixteen at a 7f distance at Sandown three weeks ago on that first run. Plenty of promise is there, so he should be able to build further.

MUAY TAI was very tidy on his debut as he collected himself for a good strong finish to take third place on an Ascot debut a ago. So he has to come into consideration for this maiden as a threat.

The other name will have to be JOHN LEEPER, a son of Frankel. He has been very well bred and looks the best of the rest of the debutants lining up in this fixture.
