It’s a big field to pick through with 17 entered. It is Kinch leading the way at the head of the racing betting market for the fixture on Thursday.

The Favourite: Kinch

Kinch was a course and distance winner earlier in the month. That was on his eighth trip at Dundalk, so it was a long time coming. The form has been there from him recently, having at least placed in each of his last three runs.

He is taking on an extra 4lb for this one, but connections will be trusting him to be a serious contender once again and he goes at 11/4* (betting odds taken at 19:43 GMT from Paddy Power on Thursday, 19th March 2020).

Sir Danilo
9/1

Tyrconnell

Tyrconnell is well versed in the conditions at Dundalk and has had five runs at the venue this year alone. He was fourth at course and distance in February, getting beaten by less than a length after biding his time at the rear in a field of 13.

His last two runs have been at 7f and he was a close 6th last time out and still had Tennessee Wildcat, Casa Romano and Distant Mirage behind him. He should be in with a chance at 5/1* (betting odds taken at 19:43 GMT from Paddy Power on Thursday, 19th March 2020).

Tennessee Wildcat

The 10-year-old is one of the oldest competitors in the race. He has had six efforts at course and distance before and won two of them. It hasn’t happened at C&D since 2015 however. The last time he went on a 1m trip here was in mid-January when he was 12th. Probably going to be lacking the sharpness against some of the company he faces.

Reverberation

There could be a bit more to come from Reverberation, who is another course and distance winner. He was last seen at Newcastle in early March when he ran well for a fifth-place finish. Reverberation has been travelling well and has looked fairly consistent, but perhaps lacking a bit of edge in the closing stages. He is 12lb lower than his last winning mark which was in October 2018.

Sir Danilo

Sir Danilo is another with the course and distance claims which happened in December 2018. After a long absence, he reappeared for the first time in early March and put in a decent run to finish fifth at course and distance.

Comes from an excellent yard who have a very good record at Dundalk in mid to late March. Worth keeping an eye on at 9/1* (betting odds taken at 19:43 GMT from Paddy Power on Thursday, 19th March 2020).

Worthy Mentions

Honestly, we are scratching around now to try and find decent place claims from anyone else in the field. Most of them are totally opposable, to be frank, such as the likes of The Perch, Crest of A Wave and Lady Boomerang.

Aishling’s Secret has the potential to go well but has had a lot of cracks at Dundalk on the 1m trip in the last year without any success. Doesn’t look well handicapped either.

Perhaps the pick of the outsiders is Voyageofdiscovery who is a C&D winner. He has kept on fairly decently in his last two 1 mile trips at Dundalk but still looks as if he would need to find something big to get among the places. Was recently beaten by Kinch.

Predictions & Tips

Kinch definitely looks the pick of the bunch because he is consistent and is out in search of what would be his third career win. The relief of having delivered the C&D recently will have been huge for connections.

He has a little extra weight to deal with but looks good enough to handle it. There are a lot of good claims coming in here with plenty of C&D experience around from a lot of contenders.

The other pick we would take in the Dundalk opener is Sir Danilo, who will likely get to the front and launch a challenge from there and may be able to stick in there for a place in contention.
