The Favourite: Lequinto

Lining up as the 5/2 favourite for the Dundalk 17:00 on Friday is Lequinto. He showed up very well on his handicap debut last time out where he was beaten into third place by less than a length.

That was over course and distance as well and Lequinto kept on well in the final stages of that one. Only makes a jump of 1lb for this one, so is a reasonable contender at 5/2* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 23:23 GMT on Thursday, 19th March 2020).

Lady Alcazar
7/1

Betfred

Lady Alcazar

An interesting and progressive horse. She came up with a very good effort to land a fourth place at course and distance on her last trip. That was from a well undervalued 40/1 mark on her as well, so she came in fantastically well.

This will be her handicap debut and has been treated well. Well enough to potentially be a big threat in the field. She is worth some considerations at 5/1* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 23:23 GMT on Thursday, 19th March 2020).

Sebs Star

Sebs Star came up with superb effort, the best of his career when he took second place at course and distance. That was in November and hasn’t been seen since then. There was nothing in the form prior to that to suggest that a strong run was coming and he was helped out in the weights.

If he reproduces that form then he could pull into the picture at 9/2* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 23:23 GMT on Thursday, 19th March 2020)

Myrcella

The general form of Myrcella has been good. She was second on her last 6f trip which was at Curragh last September. She has had the one trip since then when she took fourth at Navan over an extended 5f trip.

This will be her first trip on the all-weather so that’s worth taking into consideration, but a fair weight and there is plenty of promise about her for 9/1 claims* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 23:23 GMT on Thursday, 19th March 2020).

Lady Maura

Lady Maura looked to have taken a big step forward with third-place finish at Dundalk on her handicap debut in October last year. But then she took on a maiden back at the venue over a furlong further and missed the boat a little bit.

But approaching this race with a fair handicap, there is the potential for a return to form from her and it could be worth keeping an eye on Lady Maura form a 7/1 position* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 23:23 GMT on Thursday, 19th March 2020).

Worthy Mentions

Briseuse De Coeur is a maiden after five runs and took a third place finish in a claiming race at Dundalk earlier this month. Unfortunately has a wide draw to contend with in this one and may just have too much to find.

Banchory put in something of an encouraging run on her last start, but she was held up a bit. The handicapping may suit her for this one as well as running at the 6f trip. An interesting entry.

Predictions & Tips

A tough race to call here. At the head of the market there is Lequitno who showed that he can build on what was a very tidy handicap debut.

Be we like Lady Alcazar on her handicap debut in the contest because of having been treated very well by the assessor. She looks to be progressing nicely and has every chance in the field.

For much the same reason, Myrcella also has some appeal in the contest. She is another who looks to be improving and conditions may well suit her chances.
