Dundalk Friday 18:30: Betfred offer 5/2 racing odds on Major Power – 20th March 2020

Major Power hard to oppose at Dundalk

Horse Racing Betting

Late into the evening at Friday’s Dundalk meeting is this 6f handicap on the all-weather. There are 12 entered for the contest which is for four-year-olds and above. It is a good-looking contest as well and it is Major Power who is heading to the race as the favourite.

The Favourite: Major Power

Major Power is on a four-timer as he heads to Dundalk on Friday. He is cutting back a furlong but that doesn’t look too likely to trip him up at all. In total, Major Power has won four of the last six runs he has been on, all at the venue.

On his last run, he impressively beat Togoville who was a very well handicapped competitor and there’s every chance that Major Power can continue his streak and he is the 5/2 favourite* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 19:53 GMT on Thursday, March 19th 2020)

Poet’s Pride

He has been working his way into top form and he scored at Dundalk over a 7f trip on his last run. He is up 4lb for that effort, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in the picture, because the Poet’s Pride is trending in the right direction.

The question for him will be over the trip. It’s been an 11th place finish on each of his last two trips at the 1m distance. But still, should be in contention and is at 5/1 odds* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 19:53 GMT on Thursday, March 19th 2020).

Fit For Function

Fit For Function doesn’t always perform at his best on the all-weather. It has been eleven runs on the Polytrack and has scored just the once from all of that. He has won at the course before and has bagged a distance win.

But none of that has happened in the current form. He was fourth on his last 6f trip which was at the venue in mid-January. Easily a place-contender but looks as if he is still trying to find his best distance.

Wherewithal

Wherewithal is on his handicap debut for this one. He was over 5f last time out and ended at the back of the field. But for this debut, he has been handicapped well which should help his chances. No question he is going to have to dig pretty deep to get in the frame, but he looks interesting on his handicap bow at 14/1* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 19:53 GMT on Thursday, March 19th 2020).

Keepthebestsideout

Five starts and still a maiden. But Keepthebestsideout was sliding along in some decent form until a visit to Dundalk in late February. He was at the back of the field for that one and because of that goes with cheekpieces for the first time. Going based off his debut under the handicap at Sligo last summer when he took second, he has potential. He has to trim fitter after his return here after a long absence.

Worthy Mentions

Iseebreeze has been steady and is well out of the handicap for this one. She will have the blinkers on for the first time on Friday and this will be back to back 6f trips for her.

Eachern has won three races in his career. All of them happened at Dundalk and one of those was course and distance as well. Has a very good apprentice in Ben Coen which claims 3lb and is worth some reasonable considerations at 8/1* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 19:53 GMT on Thursday, March 19th 2020).

Predictions & Tips

This looks like a good field but it is going to be hard to oppose Major Power for the win. If he runs his race then there doesn’t look to be anyone in the field who is going to have enough to stop him earning that four-timer.

The field looks pretty clear with Poet’s Pride and Fit For Function both bringing strong claims to get in the money. We would throw Eachern into that mix as well, but all three of them look as if they need to find more.

For our outside pick in Dundalk betting, we will lean on Wherewithal who is on his handicap debut. He is heading into action having been well treated in the handicap and could make an impression.
