Edinson Cavani 6/4 odds at Unibet for January move to Chelsea

Could Cavani be the short-term answer for Chelsea?

Transfer rumours are fun, right? After Chelsea’s late weekend loss at Newcastle on the weekend, rumours about potential interest in a movie for PSG’s Edinson Cavani started filtering through the grapevine. Chelsea peppered Newcalste’s goal without return in the fixture.

Chelsea have been relying on young Tammy Abraham to lead the line and he has done a pretty admirable job. But there has only been two goals from him in his last nine Premier League outings.

Chelsea have only managed a W1 D2 L1 record in their four league games since the turn of the new year. They twice threw away a lead at home against Arsenal on Tuesday for a 2-2 draw. The Blues have failed to score in three of their last five league home games as well.

Could Edinson Cavani be the man to provide some relief?

Chelsea are as short as 6/4 with Unibet to be Edinson Cavani’s club at the end of the January transfer window* (betting odds from Unibet correct at 06:51 January 22nd, 2020). Chelsea boss Frank Lampard called him a “great player”’ recently.

A move for the 32-year-old, would be only a short term fix. Perhaps a sprinkling of experience amidst Lampard’s trust in youth.

Cavani is out of contract at PSG in the summer and appears to be looking for a move. The Uruguayan has played only nine league games, producing two goals for the French Champions this season.

Cavani’s record speaks for itself

Edinson Cavani has tallied 198 goals in 292 appearances since moving to PSG in 2013. Arguably though, with the spending power that PSG have in Ligue 1 where they have been streaks ahead of everyone else for a long time, doesn’t speak to Cavani’s ability to cut it in the Premier League.

Chelsea still have 33-year-old Olivier Giroud at the club, but the Frenchman has made only two starts this season. Michy Batshuayi was kept around but has one goal in 13 EPL appearances this season. So Chelsea’s striker options are a bit thin on the ground. Basically they must recognise they need a bit of help for the second half of the season.

Atletico Madrid a contender for Cavani

Apparently a recent approach by Atletico Madrid for Cavani sparked the player to ask PSG for a move. The Uruguayan wasn’t in the PSG squad for the Cup win over Lorient on the weekend. Atletico are at 7/4 to be Edinson’s club after the January transfer window* (betting odds from Unibet correct at 06:51 January 22nd, 2020).

Manchester United have also been linked with a move for Cavani, and with Tottenham looking for cover after losing Harry Kane to injury for a while, Cavani may find himself with a few options to consider.
