There’s plenty of action in La Liga in midweek, so let’s focus on the intriguing fixture between Jose Luis Mendilibar’s Eibar and Julen Lopetegui’s Sevilla at the Ipurua Municipal Stadium. The home team will be searching for their first league victory of the season, while Los Rojiblancos will want to bounce back after losing to Real Madrid last time out. Sevilla may be away from home, but the bookies have them as the 5/4 favourites in this one.

Eibar News and Form – Will the Gunsmiths’ wait for a win continue?

Eibar have struggled to get going this season, failing to win any of their opening five in La Liga. Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side have drawn two and lost three up until now.

However, after falling to back-to-back losses to Atletico Madrid and Espanyol, Eibar battled to a 0-0 draw at Levante last time out. Both of their league draws have ended goalless.

Eibar have not won in La Liga since beating Real Betis 1-0 at home back in May of last season. Los Armeros have struggled for league wins of late, picking up just two league victories in their last 13, with seven of those ending in defeat.

Despite their poor end to last season, Eibar finished in a respectable 12th place last term. Overall, the club from Basque Country won 11, drew 14 and lost 13. They were hard to beat at home, losing just four league games at the Ipurua Municipal Stadium.

Eibar have made a poor start to their campaign, but can they get off the mark with a big win over Sevilla in the province of Gipuzkoa this Thursday night?

Sevilla News and Form – Can the Red and Whites return to winning ways?

Julen Lopetegui’s Sevilla have made a very strong start to their league season, picking up an impressive ten points from a possible 15. Sevillistas have won three, drawn one and lost one of their opening five league encounters.

Sevilla opened up their campaign with wins over Espanyol (2-0) and Granada (1-0) before being held to a 1-1 home draw by Celta Vigo on matchday three. They then beat Alaves 1-0 at the Mendizorrotza Stadium.

Last time out, though, Sevilla suffered their first league defeat of the season. It was a tight game against Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, but a second-half strike from Karim Benzema gave Los Blancos a 1-0 win in Seville.

Sevilla were excellent on their own patch last season, but they only claimed five away wins, losing nine of their 19 away matches along the way. This season, however, Sevilla have won all four of their league and cup fixtures on the road, scoring seven and shipping none so far.

After losing a tight fixture against Real Madrid last Sunday, Lopetegui’s men will be eager to get back to winning ways at the first time of asking on Thursday evening.

Eibar v Sevilla Predictions

Sevilla win: Los Rojiblancos were flying before Real Madrid beat them last Sunday. Nevertheless, that was Sevilla’s first reverse in any competition since losing 3-0 at home to Leganes in La Liga back in May of last season.

Sevilla have been untouchable on their travels so far this season, winning four out of four up until now. Lopetegui’s troops have won to nil against Espanyol, Granada, Alaves (all in La Liga) and Qarabag (UEFA Europa League). We fancy Sevilla to make it five away wins on the spin with victory at the Ipurua Municipal Stadium in midweek. The visitors are available at 5/4.

Ever Banega netted twice against Eibar last season, but the 31-year-old has yet to score this term. You can get Banega at the top price of 5/1 to notch anytime on Thursday.
