Eintracht Frankfurt News and Form

It has been a pretty impressive show from Eintracht Frankfurt so far in this seasons in Europa league. On their route to the semifinals, they have lost just the one game. The German side claimed maximum points in the group stage and that was pretty impressive considering the level of opposition that they were up against. In the group, they faced Lazio, last year’s Europa League runners up Marseille and Apollon Limassol.

In the round of 32, they then sent Shakhtar Donetsk packing, before impressing in their tie against Inter Milan. In the quarter-finals Eintracht Frankfurt came back from a 4-2 loss in the first leg at Benfica, to win 2-0 back on home soil to progress on away goals. Considering that each of their knockout phase opponents had dropped down from the Champions League this season, it has been a very strong show from the Germans.

Chelsea News and Form

Chelsea have remained undefeated in this season’s Europa League, winning 11 of 12 games played. The Premier League side dominated the their group before coasting to a 5-1 aggregate victory over Swedish side Malmo in the round of 32. Chelsea then sent Dinamo Kiev packing with an 8-0 aggregate success. They were given a little bit of a stiffer test in the quarter-finals as they were up against the enterprising Slavia Prague.

Chelsea landed a 1-0 away win in the first leg, despite looking second-best for large chunks of that game. They were then pushed hard in the second half of the return fixture at Stamford Bridge, the Blues securing a 4-3 home success in that game. Chelsea’s overall home and away form against Bundesliga opposition is not bad at all. From their 19 previous matches they hold a W10 D5 L4 record.

They have earned a couple of big wins in their last two trips to Germany, which were 3-0 and 5-0 wins over Schalke. Chelsea are currently on a six-match winning streak in the competition then this is an important campaign for them because it offers a backdoor passage into the Champions League if they can win the title outright. That is just in case they can’t manage to lock down a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Chelsea have equalled Atletico Madrid’s unbeaten 15 match streak in the UEFA Europa League. So if they don’t lose out in Germany on Thursday night, they will set a new standard. All in all, it means that they haven’t lost in this competition since a defeat at Rubin Kazan in their 2012/13 quarter-final, which was their only previous appearance in the knockout stage and Chelsea went on to lift the title at the very first attempt. Chelsea’s have won six of their last seven (D1) away games in the Europa League, scoring 14 goals and conceding just the four.
