European clash to end in a draw

England v Belgium- World Cup 2018

England v Belgium Betting Preview – World Cup 2018 28th June – 7.00 p.m

Group G at the 2018 World Cup was always expected to come down to this, a clash between Belgium and England for the top spot. They have already collected a qualification berth each and now it is just a matter of settling finishing positions. The two European nations will go into this one level on points, level on goal difference and with the same amount of goals scored. A draw would mean that boils down to which of them have the better disciplinary record. Our England v Belgium predictions suggest a close game ahead.

England News and Form

England have made quite the impact at the tournament so far, having fired off eight goals in their two games. After Harry Kane netted that late winner at stoppage time over Tunisia in their opener, things got a lot more comfortable for the Three Lions as they hammered Panama 6-1. So it has been a good return, the one issue there, of course, is that it is a surprise that they have yet to get themselves a clean sheet. But the positive is that England are playing well as an attacking unit and the goal haul against Panama will have been welcome because they were wasteful against Tunisia. England and Belgium have identical records at the top of Group G and if this is a draw, it would be down to bookings to separate the two. Winner basically takes all. But this may not be a full-blooded competitive game but still for our England v Belgium betting tip we are looking over 2.5 goals at 11/10 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from June 25th, 2018 at 7:44 p.m.).

Both look a bit vulnerable at the back. Harry Kane has fired off five goals in the tournament so far and he will be looking to get some game time in to try and boost his push for the Golden Boot. Kane is the 11/10 anytime goalscorer favourite at bet365 for this one* (Betting Odds were taken from June 25th, 2018 at 7:44 p.m.). The Three Lions have been good going forward but you have to put things in perspective because they haven’t faced a good defence yet and their own defence hasn’t been tested at all. England are W5 D1 in their last six games, scoring at least two goals in each of their last four. This may end up being a battle of the benches with nothing really at stake here.

Belgium News and Form

You are looking at a quote of 4/5 odds at bet365 on both teams to score in this one* (Betting Odds were taken from June 25th, 2018 at 7:44 p.m.). The Red Devils got a win over Panama to open with, putting a slow start together but scoring three in the second half. They then ran out 5-2 winners over Tunisia but will have been disappointed with the goals that they gave up. England and Belgium are in the same boat in that they are better going forward than defending by the looks of things. Certainly when it comes to depth off the bench. Belgium do have four clean sheets in their last six games but the only team of note that they faced there was Portugal. Before the start of the 2018 World Cup Belgium were pegged as one of the best dark horse options. This will be their first serious test in a way.

Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has stated that could change the starting line up for this one. Romelu Lukaku who has netted four goals so far at the tournament is a 13/10 anytime goalscorer option at bet365* (Betting Odds were taken from June 25th, 2018 at 7:44 p.m.). However, both Lukaku and Eden Hazard picked up knocks in their win over Tunisia and may be held back from this game. Under Martinez, the Red Devils have won tenof their last twelve games so they are carrying form and they have rattled off at least three goals in each of their last five wins. Even though there may well be wholesale changes from both sides in the game, there should be goals flowing in this one.

England v Belgium Head to Head

England totally dominates the head to head against Belgium as they are 15-1 ahead with four drawn matches in their previous clashes. Their most recent meeting was a friendly in 2012 with England winning 1-0. Their last World Cup meeting ended in a 1-0 win for England too after extra time in 1990. Belgium’s only win against England was back in 1936.

England v Belgium Predictions

This may not be the top clash that it could have been because realistically all of the heat has been taken off of it because of the situation. Both have qualified for the next round already and there’s no great advantage to finishing top. This may just play itself out to something of a non-competitive draw.
