England News and Form – Three Lions to roar to another victory?

England have been in very good form in recent months, winning seven of their last nine in all competitions, losing just one of those along the way. Back in June, the Three Lions finished third in the UEFA Nations League finals, beating Switzerland on penalties in Portugal in their last matchup.

The English, who reached the 2018 FIFA World Cup semi-finals, have been dominant in Euro 2020 qualifying so far, winning both matches at a canter. The Three Lions started their campaign with a thumping 5-0 victory over Czech Republic back in March. Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling was the hero, netting a treble in the big win at Wembley Stadium.

In their last qualifier in Montenegro a few months back, England put on another five-star show in Group A. Despite going behind at the City Stadium in Podgorica, goals from Michael Keane, Ross Barkley (2), Harry Kane and Sterling turned the game on its head in the 5-1 rout over Montenegro.

England are going to take some serious stopping in Group A. Southgate’s troops will put one foot in the Euro 2020 finals with a win at Wembley on Saturday. After that, the English welcome Kosovo to London next week. The Three Lions will certainly be targeting six points from this round of fixtures.

England v Bulgaria Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the two nations since September 2011

In that last game between the pair, Wayne Rooney (2) and Gary Cahill were on the scoresheet in a comfortable 3-0 win

England have never lost to Bulgaria, winning six and drawing four across various competitions

The Three Lions won both UEFA Euro 2012 qualifiers, scoring seven and shipping zero in the process

Key-Facts – England v Bulgaria

  • England have won two out of two, scoring ten times
  • The Bulgarians are bottom of Group A, picking up two points from a possible 12
  • Bulgaria are winless in seven

Bulgaria News and Form – Bulgarians to stay rock bottom of Group A?

Bulgaria sit rock bottom of Group A having lost two and drawn two of their four qualifiers so far. The Bulgarians started their qualifying campaign with a 1-1 draw with Montenegro in Sofia, which they followed up with another 1-1 draw, this time away at Kosovo.

Since then, though, the Lions have fallen to back-to-back defeats. On matchday three, Bulgaria were beaten 2-1 by Czech Republic in Prague. Krasimir Balakov’s side took the lead at the Stadion Letna, but a Patrik Schick brace gave the Czechs a 2-1 win on home soil.

Last time out, Bulgaria were on the wrong end of a five-goal thriller at the Vasil Levski National Stadium, as the Kosovans picked up a surprise 3-2 victory in the Bulgarian capital. That result put them bottom of the pile after four games played.

Bulgaria have been in miserable form over the past year or so. Since winning four in a row in 2018, the Lions are without a win in seven, though four of those have ended in 1-1 draws. Unfortunately for Balakov and his boys, I can see them crashing to a heavy defeat in the English capital at the weekend.

England v Bulgaria Predictions

England win: The Three Lions have been unstoppable in Group A so far. England have played two games less than Bulgaria but find themselves four points ahead of Saturday’s opponents in the table. The English have been leading at the break in both of their qualifiers, so have a punt on the hosts to be winning at half time and full time in this one at 4/11.

England thumped Czech Republic 5-0 in their opening game, which they followed up with a convincing 5-1 win against Montenegro. Southgate’s men should secure another comfortable victory on Saturday. With that in mind, put some money on England to win -3 at 7/4.
