Six Nations Rugby Preview – 3.00 pm kick off

Sometimes when you produce a performance as good as England did out in Ireland last weekend, it can be a tough thing to follow it up. It will be interesting to see what intensity levels England can reach in their first home game of this Six Nations 2019 championship. They take on France who were left gutted last weekend in a loss against Wales.

England v France Preview

The performance that England delivered in Dublin to take a victory over Ireland last weekend, was stunning. It came on the back of a difficult 2018 calendar year for them, but they appeared to be fully back in the groove, especially with Mako and Billy Vunipola getting back into action, along with Manu Tuilagi.

England ran up four tries against Ireland, so they have collected a bonus point already in the Championship. Their defence pressed Ireland quickly and high and never gave the reigning Grand Slam champions a chance to get into the game. England were also positive in attack, happy enough to take opportunistic tries when they came their way.

Will they be able to keep up the same intensity against France? Twickenham will be bouncing after that win in Dublin. A win here puts England m in the driving seat to power their way to the title with only one more away fixture to come. After their show of power last weekend an England -12 Handicap is at 10/11 odds* (betting odds taken from bet365 on February 6th, 2019 at 11:03 pm). They will be out for some revenge after losing to France last season.

Head to head

France ran out 22-16 winners over England in last season’s Six Nations. But it has largely been England on top in recent clashes as that was France’s second win in their last six against the English. In the last decade, England have hosted France six times at Twickenham and they have won all of them. Four of England’s last five home wins over the French have been by a margin of 10 points or less only.

France dealt a blow

Going into the championship, France once again were looking for a bit of stability. They seemed to have found it as they raced out to a big 16-0 half time lead at home over Wales. It was a prime position for the French to open in some style in this season’s Six Nations. A big lead at half time. Home soil. But it all fell apart for them as Wales produced the biggest ever comeback win in Six Nations history to earn a 24-19 success over the French.

It’s hard to know where the French can go after that. It would have been a massive blow to their confidence after such a positive start. They did pick up a bonus point though so didn’t go away totally empty-handed. But once again it was inconsistency, once again it wasn’t good enough from Les Bleus. Given their recent troubles at Twickenham, this could be another tough fixture for them.

England v France Prediction

It has to be England for the win because they have home form over France and they have confidence behind them after last weekend’s efforts. It’s unlikely that we will see England at the same intensity levels. Going with the trend of recent England victories over France by lower-margins, then a France +12 at 11/10 is well worth a look* (betting odds taken from bet365 on February 6th, 2019 at 11:03 pm).
