England can dominate at Trent Bridge

Cricket Betting

England opened the tournament with a win as they played a well-controlled game against South Africa. So that is nerves out of the way for them and they will be delighted with getting the success under their belt. For their second match of the tournament, they meet up again with familiar opposition in the form of Pakistan.

Can England beat Pakistan once again?

In the opening game of the tournament as hosts, things were going to always be a little tricky for England against South Africa on Thursday. After controlling their batting on what proved to be a more difficult pitch than expected, they dialled back the power hitting a bit against the Proteas but still posted over 300 runs. Then superb work in the field limited the response from South Africa and England picked up the win by 104 runs.

Joe Root leads the way as the 3/1 favourite to be England’s top batsman in the match* (betting odds taken from Bet365 on May 31st 2018 at 12:52 pm). There were a whole clutch of top performances through the England side, living up to the occasion. With the ball, Jofra Archer came on take wickets when he was called upon. All in all, given the power batting that they just showed recently against Pakistan in their 4-0 series win, England may be looking to cut loose a bit in this one. This fixture is at Trent Bridge.

Trent Bridge head to head

There have been just the two ODI matches between England and Pakistan at Trent Bridge in the last decade. England won both of those matches. The first was in August 2016 with England putting a thumping 169 run victory on the board. They toppled Pakistan by three wickets when they met just back on May 17th during their recent series.

Pakistan slump further

Pakistan went into the World Cup on the back of a ten-match losing streak in ODI internationals. After a sound beating by England in their recent series, there was at least hope and optimism that come the start of the tournament, Pakistan would kick into gear. They didn’t. They faced up to the West Indies at Trent Bridge on Friday and they were skittled out for just 105 in a disastrous batting performance. They were basically undone all through the line up by short balls fired at them.

Any team watching that will have seen Pakistan’s massive struggles and England can follow suit, particularly through Archer to fire though short-pitched deliveries at them. Either way, Pakistan are really struggling for confidence at the moment. You can see it in their body language out in the field. Their batting looked their biggest asset coming into the tournament and that was just totally tore down. Is there a way back for them in this one against the tournament outright favourites?

Predictions

We expect more of the same from another meeting between these two sides. England bossed the tourists in their recent series and they should do the same again. Pakistan are really struggling now in all aspects of their game. They may find England too much to handle once again. England to win.
