Six Nations 2019 Rugby Preview – 5.00 pm kick off

Will England still have a shot at the Six Nations title come the kick off in the last game of this season’s Championship? If Wales beat Ireland with a bonus point earlier in the day than England won’t be able to catch the Welsh. Anything less from the Welsh and England will have a chance. They are red-hot favourites to beat Scotland at Twickenham at long 1/14 odds* (betting odds taken from bet365 on March 13th, 2019 at 5:00 pm).

England v Scotland Preview

England still have a shot at winning the Six Nations despite their hiccup in Wales on matchday three. They trail leaders Wales by one point going into the weekend. So if Wales beat Ireland earlier in the day with a bonus point, England can’t catch them. If Wales just win with the regular four points, England would have to beat Scotland with a bonus point to top the table.

England have a huge advantage in the points difference over them. If Ireland were to beat Wales than England would just need the four points point for a regular win. England will know what they have to do by the time they kick off at Twickenham and that could dictate the pace of the game. England destroyed Italy 57-14 last weekend at Twickenham, running up eight tries.

Head to Head

England suffered a defeat at the hands of the Scots last season in the Championships, but that was at Murrayfield. That snapped a seven-match winning streak that the Red Rose had been on against Scotland in the tournament.

In the last meeting between the two of them at Twickenham in 2017 England crushed their opponents with a 61-21 scoreline. In the last decade, England have won all of their home games against Scotland, three of the four wins being by a margin of at least twelve points.

Can Scots frustrate England

Scotland’s campaign has fallen flat after a promising start. They were expensive and free at home against Italy in their opener, but things have gone south since then. They missed a huge opportunity on home soil on the second weekend of action, lining up against a wounded Ireland who had just been beaten heavily by England. But the Scots were poor on the day and were brushed aside by a professional appearance from the visiting men in green.

They were then really poor out in France in the middle of the tournament suffering a 27-10 defeat against a French side who were on their knees after big setbacks against Wales and England in the tournament. Scotland really limped out of that game in Paris and that will have been the most disappointing display in a while for head coach Gregor Townsend. That was two big opportunities that were thrown away. Scotland then lost 11-18 at home against Wales last weekend.

England v Scotland Prediction

It should end up being a win for England in this one. Given what has happened to Scotland in this championship, it may not take much for their heads to fall and an England -18 handicap isn’t a bad fit at 10/11 odds* (betting odds taken from bet365 on March 13th, 2019 at 5:00 pm).
