England v South Africa First Test Cricket Betting Odds & Preview – 6th July, 2017

Home side value to take opener at Lords

Cricket Betting

It has been an action-packed summer of cricket on domestic soil, and while the Women’s World Cup is going on, England’s men will step back into action in the opening match of their Test series with South Africa. This will be a first for England under their new skipper Joe Root, who becomes the 80th man to captain the nation at the Test Level. After Alastair Cook stepped down from the role back in February after a record 59 Tests in charge, it is Root who fills the void now.

This is the first of four Tests between the two nations and so far on the Tour, England took a 2-1 ODI series win over the Tourists, while they won the Twenty20 Series by the same scoreline. So they are in the ascendancy and with the Tourists surprisingly getting a little worse as their trip has gone on, particularly in the ICC Champions Trophy, then the home side are odds on at 4/7 at Coral to win the Test Series.

July

6-10 1st Test, Lord’s (11:00 BST)

14-18 2nd Test, Trent Bridge (11:00 BST)

27-31 3rd Test, The Oval (11:00 BST)

August

4-8 4th Test, Old Trafford (11:00 BST)

The Proteas are 3/1 to triumph in the series. So to the first test, which England are even money to win, which will be the first between the two since early 2016 in South Africa. England did edge that series with two wins a draw and a defeat on the road. The last time that the two of them squared off at Lord’s was back in August 2012 with South Africa taking a win, which was part of their series victory over the English. South Africa have won their last two Test series in England.

But England look the better of the two at the moment and they have brought back Gary Ballance, Toby Roland-Jones and spinner Liam Dawson into the squad. England’s key bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad are in the squad along with Mark Wood. Keaton Jennings and former captain Alastair Cook are the opening partnership for England. As for South Africa, they will be missing their captain Faf du Plessis who had to go home to attend what was described as being a difficult birth of his first child.

The South Africans will also notably be missing pace bowler Dale Steyn and AB de Villiers is taking a break from the format. So England have a good chance of getting off to a strong positive start at home against the Proteas. In the Series Correct Score betting at Coral, an England 2-1 option is the shortest priced at 9/2 followed by a 3-0 home win coming in at 5/1 across the four match series.
