Will England beat West Indies at World Cup 2019?

The next challenge facing England that 2019 World Cup in West Indies. Wins over Bangladesh and South Africa have kept England well in the picture for a run at the semifinals. Their defeat against Pakistan was a real shake-up for them. But with their comfortable victory in their following fixture against Bangladesh, which England won by 106 runs, gives them the platform to drive on to some strong winning momentum again.

Jason Roy had a big knock for England in that match, firing off 153 and he is at 3/1 odds to be England’s Top Batsman in this one* (betting odds taken from bet365 on June 11th, 2019 at 5:21 pm). That was a score which he needed as well to get himself up and running in the tournament. But then England have such stunning batting power and depth that Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow are the same odds as Roy is. A win in this one would be a big for England as West Indies are only one point behind them, so it would start to create a bit of separation in the table.

England v West Indies Head to Head

England and West Indies met for a five-match series in the Caribbean back in February and early March. It was an up and down series with the two of them alternating wins either side of a washed-out third fixture. Looking back further, over the last decade, England do have a strong head to head record against the Windies.

England have won fourteen of the last seventeen completed fixtures between the two teams. That is a pretty telling stat, or at least it should be on the day. The two met at the 2011 World Cup in the group stage with England taking an 18 run victory.

Can West Indies beat England to cause a huge upset?

West Indies have been entertaining and competitive as well so far the 2019 Cricket World Cup. They have three points on the board from their three games. They caused a massive stir in their opening fixture when they took a comfortable 7-wicket victory over Pakistan after skittling out their opponents for just 105 runs. In their second match of the tournament, they had Australia on the ropes and really should have taken the win against them.

The Windies had Australia down to 79 for 5 at one point, but then they just let the game get away from them. Even in their chase of a 289 target, they were knocking on the door as well. They just couldn’t find anyone there, in the end, to stick around with captain Jason Holder to put those extra runs on the board, giving the Australians the win by 15 runs. Holder is 7/2 to be their Top Bowler* (betting odds taken from bet365 on June 11th, 2019 at 5:21 pm). But the Windies have been aggressive with their bowling and explosive with the bat. Although at times, some of their batting decisions have been fairly questionable.

England v West Indies Predictions

England were back settled and dominant in their game against Bangladesh and that was the perfect tonic which they needed after getting shaken up by Pakistan. The batting power that England have at their disposal is far superior to that of the Windies and therefore the win for the hosts is the most likely outcome. England may come in for some hostile bowling but still, they should bank themselves the victory.
