Euro 2016 outright betting – odds & prediction

France to beat Spain in the final (again)?

Euro Betting

There are no certainties in football of course. That is the beauty of the game. Euro 2016 wouldn’t be much of a spectacle if everyone knew that France were going to win before the tournament started. So it is that unrepeatability which makes the beautiful game so beautiful. There is also some wiggle room for a group stage upset, for a big gun to fail to make it out of the group by some misfortune and of course, the absolute crap shoot of football which is the penalty shoot out.

So how do we approach Euro 2016 outright betting, particularly this year because of the tournament having been expanded and you aren’t just picking a winner and a runner up from a group? Four of the six groups will also have a third placed team going through to the knockout stage of the competition and that throws up a huge variable. Even with the expanded format this year, you are still likely looking at one of Europe’s major players to come through in the end and lift the title. But who will it be? Reigning world champions Germany? Reigning European champions Spain? Host nation France? Will there be a first title for England?

Euro 2016 odds and predictions

We look at Euro 2016 outright betting odds and predictions. Not only do you have to consider the strength of the teams heading into the tournament, you have to try and piece together the draw somewhat. The easiest way to do that it to pencil in those teams who look like dead-certs to win their groups. For our Euro 2016 prediction were have Spain, France and Germany. Not a big shocker there. However, the paths for these three teams are notably different. If they all win their groups, as expected, we would be on course for a France v Germany showdown, leaving Spain to waltz through to meet the winner.

So there is a slight advantage here for the Spaniards should the groups play out like that, because one of the front runners will fall before they get to face them. So that is our train of thought and where our Euro 2016 prediction is heading to. Does that mean we would tip Spain to win the title for a third time at a price of 11/2? No. The winner of the France v Germany projected semi final would get the backing in that one. Whoever comes through that will have overcome a really tough test and should be completely geared up to get over the final challenge.

So what we would shoot for here is France at 13/8 and Spain at 9/4 to reach the final of Euro 2016, leaving Germany and their slightly dodgy defence, falling short in the semi finals of the competition. The way then to approach this in our Euro 2016 prediction is to shoot for a France/Spain Name The Finalists wager at a price of 14/1 with William Hill. This is actually a repeat of the 1984 Final (in France!) where Les Bleus won 2-0. It doesn’t look to be a bad wager at all. Leading round full circle back to the outright winner market, you have France at 13/8 favourites and frankly, they appear to be the ones to beat.

What about England? Well should they win their group and make it through to the final four then they would be the ones taking on Spain. In no way shape or form, as highlighted in a recent friendly defeat when the Spaniards played England off the park, will this be an easy game for the English at this stage and that is where they are likely to come up short, like Germany, with defensive issues likely to be the cause of their ultimate downfall. England are a quote of 5/1 to exit at the semi final stage, within a price of 9/4 to make a quarter final exit.

Top Goalscorer Market Prediction

We like Robert Lewandowski for this. He was the top goal scorer during qualifying and the Poles can make a splash at the tournament because of him. They are quite a positive side and easily outscored Germany in their qualification group. Lewandowski has everything, quality in the air, power on the deck and he isn’t afraid to put himself about.

Usually when we look for a Top Goalscorer selection, we pick from a team that is likely to go to at least the semi finals, but not this time as we don’t think Poland will get that far. But they should get four games under their belt at least at the tournament and there will be plenty of scoring opportunities around for Lewandowski in that, even in getting reunited with Germany in Group C. The Polish striker is a price of 16/1 in the Euro 2016 Top Goalscorer market and while that’s not the kind of price you would have a punt on, he is tremendous each way value. Our other recommendation in the market would be on Germany’s Thomas Muller who should deserve a straight single wager to top score.

Euro 2016 outright betting – odds & prediction

So in summary. We are backing a French victory in the Final and that will come against reigning champions Spain who will just fall short of claiming their third successive title. Robert Lewandowski will top score, being pushed close by Thomas Muller.
