When and where is the Europa League Final?

The Europa League FInal 2022 is set for an 8.00 pm kick-off BST from the Stadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in Seville, Spain.

The match is being broadcast by BT Sport.

Eintracht Frankfurt v Rangers Head To Head

There have been just two previous matches between Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers and they were well over half a century ago.

The two previously met in the 1959/60 European Cup semi-finals and both legs of that tie turned out to be a real goal-fest.

Unfortunately for Rangers, they were on the wrong end of a six-goal tally on both occasions. T

hey lost the first game at the Waldstadion 6-1 and then 3-6 back at Ibrox, going down overall 4-12 on aggregate.

In both of the fixtures, Rangers had pulled the game back to 1-1 having conceded the first goal in the match.

Will there be another high-scoring fixture between the two clubs?

Over 3.5 goals for Europa League Odds is at a quote of 5/2* (odds recorded at 19:53 GMT on May 17th, 2022 at 888Sport).

2022 Europa League Final Preview – Team News

What the final line-ups will be, time will tell, but there are some pointers to look ahead to for the Europa League Final, which could sway betting decisions.

Frankfurt are waiting on the fitness of centre-back Obite Evan N’Dicka who was injured in Bundesliga action on the weekend.

The German side are going without Martin Hinteregger and forward Jesper Lindstrom.

Possible Frankfurt Starting XI: Trapp; Touré, Tuta, N’Dicka; Knauff, Sow, Rode, Kostić; Hauge, Kamada, Borré

Rangers are potentially going to be without Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos which is a huge blow to their attacking ambitions.

But the positives for the Gers is that Aaron Ramsey and Adam Diallo have come into form at the right time to help plug some holes.

Possible Rangers Starting XI: McGregor; Goldson, Lundstram, Bassey; Tavernier, Jack, Kamara, Barišić; Wright, Aribo, Kent.

Our betting prediction:
Eintracht Frankfurt 1-goal winning margin
3/1

Last 10 Europa League WInners

Casting an eye back over the last ten winners for this Europa League Final Preview 2022 there has been some clear trends playing out.

Each of the last ten winners of the competition were either from Spain or England. That trend will be broken this year.

Since the final was switched to a single match format for the 1997/98 season, there has not been a winner from either Germany or Scotland.

The last German team to win the UEFA Cup/Europa League was Schalke 04 in 1997 when they got the better of Inter Milan over two legs.

No Scottish side has ever lifted the UEFA Cup/Europa League.

Dundee United, Celtic and Rangers have made one appearance each in the final, all ending in defeat.

2019/20 Sevilla
2018/19 Chelsea

Previous UEFA Cup/Europa League Final appearances

Both teams have been to the Final once before in their respective club history. There was a success for Eintracht Frankfurt on their appearance.

Eintracht Frankfurt contested the 1980 Final where they were up against fellow German side Borussia Monchengladbach. Eintracht Frankfurt lost the first leg 2-3 away from home but did enough back at the Waldstadion to win 1-0 and land the title on away goals.

Rangers made their first appearance in the final in the 2007/08 season where they faced Zenit St Petersburg. That was a game played at the City of Manchester Stadium and Rangers came up short in it, losing 2-0, conceding both goals in the final twenty minutes.

The Road to Sevilla 2022

Next for this Europa League Final Preview 2022, we look at the long journeys that the two clubs had to reach this year’s showcase match.

Eintract Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt started their Europa League camping in the group stage, facing Fenerbahce, Royal Antwerp and Olympiakos.

The Bundesliga side posted a W3 D3 record in that campaign, with two of the wins happening away from home.

The first knockout stage hurdle that they faced was Real Betis and that was a very tight tie. Frankfurt had taken a 2-1 advantage from the first leg in Spain.

But then they conceded in the 90th minute back at home, sending the tie to extra time. An own goal in the 120th minute by Real Betis’ Borja Iglesia sent Frankfurt through.

There was further Spanish opposition toppled by Eintracht Frankfurt in the next round as they caused a massive upset to beat Barcelona 4-3 on aggregate, doing the damage with a spectacular 3-2 success at the Nou Camp in the second leg.

A 3-1 aggregate success over Premier League side West Ham in the semi-finals saw the Bundesliga side book their place in the Europa League Final.

With a look ahead to the Europa League Final betting, Eintracht Frankfurt are undefeated in Spain with a W4 D1 record.

Rangers

Rangers started their European adventures in the Champions League qualifiers, where they missed their opportunity in a 4-2 aggregate loss against Malmo.

That put them through to the Europa League Playoffs where they met Alashkert, which Rangers won 1-0 on aggregate.

There were some early struggles by Rangers in the group stage, losing their first two matches against Lyon and Sparta Prague.

But a home win over Brondby on Matchday Three kick-started a run of W2 D2 in their final four matches which saw them qualify.

Rangers were then heavy underdogs for the knockout stage tie against Borussia Dortmund.

But a stunning 4-2 away in the first leg, was followed up by a 2-2 draw at Ibrox.

Rangers were back among the goals in the Round of 16, beating Red Star 4-2 on aggregate. Before victory by the same aggregate scoreline against Braga in the Quarter Finals.

In the semi-final Rangers faced more Bundesliga opposition.

After losing the first leg 1-0 at RB Leipzig, the Gers turned the tie around at Ibrox, winning 3-1 in front of their home support to reach the Final.
