Manchester United slashed for title access

Manchester United brushed aside Club Bruges in the round of 32 of the Europa League and now their odds to lift the trophy have been slashed into 9/2* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 20:36 GMT on Friday, February 28th). Bringing this piece of silverware home could be critically important to them.

Winning the Europa League would mean that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men would earn that backdoor route to the Champions League next season, just in case they fail to qualify for it through a league finish.

Manchester United face Linz in the round of sixteen

Tournament favourites Manchester United will go up against Austrian side LASK Linz in the round of sixteen. It’s an interesting tie and the Red Devils are only 6/5 to collect the first leg victory, which is out on the road.

The Red Devils, who won the Europa League in 2017 against Ajax, have a dominant record against Austrian opposition. Manchester United are W7 D1 from eight previous games against teams from Austria in European action (home and away combined).

Wolves trading well

Wolves have been supported well in the Europa League winner market at 6/1 odds* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 20:36 GMT on Friday, February 28th). Nuno’s men got through the round of 32 with a 6-3 aggregate success over Espanyol. They did the damage in the first leg at home by winning 4-0.

Wolves do get a tricky round of 16 match in the Europa League as they face up to Olympiakos. The Greek side knocked out Premier League side Arsenal with an extra-time victory in North London in midweek. Wolves are 4/9 odds-on favourites To Qualify from the tie* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 20:36 GMT on Friday, February 28th) as they have the second leg back at Molineux.

Spanish v Italian duels

There are a couple of great fixtures in the round of 16 of the Europa League which pits a Spanish team against an Italian one. Sevilla, who are five-time winners of the competition line up against Roma for a place in the quarter-finals.

Inter Milan, who are the second favourite in the Europa League outright winner market have to deal with Getafe. It’s a tricky tie but Antonio Conte’s men could certainly have pulled out a worse draw than that.

They sit as the 4/1 second-favourites outright but were drifting a little on Friday* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 20:36 GMT on Friday, February 28th)

Rangers with a tough test

Scottish side Rangers will have a tough battle on their hands in the next round. Steven Gerrard’s men go into a round of sixteen battle against German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, who are former winners of the competition.

Rangers handled themselves well in the round of 32, taking a 4-2 aggregate win over Sporting Braga to advantage. Rangers are 3/1 underdogs To Qualify from the tie* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 20:36 GMT on Friday, February 28th).
