The World Boxing Super Series has launched an eWBSS Heavyweight Legends Tournament. Bookmaker Ladbrokes have betting markets open for it as well.

Because of the cancellation of so much sport, including the likelihood of Tyson Fury v Deontay Wilder III getting put back until October, the WBSS has come up with something to keep fans ticking over and to bring a bit of light relief.

They are simulating a boxing tournament stacked with legends of the sport.

Eight famous boxers

They launched their eWBSS HEavyweight Legends Tournament featuring eight of the most famous names plucked out of this history of heavyweight boxing, including, of course, Muhammed Ali.

The series is being simulated on EA Sports ‘Fight Night Champion’ video game.

There will be a live-streamed fight every night through to the final on Sunday, March 28th. Each fight will be simulated and streamed on the World Boxing Super Series Facebook page at 5pm (GMT) every day.

‘Haymaker’ faces Geroge Foreman for final semi final spot

Already in the tournament, Muhammed Ali has beaten Evander Holyfield, while Joe Frazier got the better of Lennox Lewis in an epic 7-round battle.

Mike Tyson has made it through to the semi-finals as well following a victory over Eric ‘Butterbean’ Esch.

Thursday’s final quarter-final sees George Foreman take on David Haye. The winner of that will get to go against Tyson in the semis and Foreman is the 4/9 favourite* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 03:00 GMT on Thursday, 26th March 2020).

Thrilla in Manilla rematch

The first of the semi-finals will be Muhammad Ali v Joe Frazier, sorry that is eMuhammad Ali v eJoe Frazier. The two met in real life for the first time in the Fight Of The Century at Madison Square Garden in New York City in 1971.

It was Smokin’ Joe who won the fight after fifteen rounds on a unanimous decision. They would go on to meet two more times. Ali won the rematch in 1974 back at the same value, turning the table in a 12-round unanimous decision.

Their final duel which was for the WBA, WBC and The Ring happened at the Philippine Coliseum, Quezon City. This was, of course, the famous Thrilla in Manilla.

There was no love lost between the two fighters at all by this point. The fight was stopped in the 14th with Frazier’s left eye closed and the right one rapidly heading that way. For this, eMuhammad Ali is 1/5 favourite to win the simulated fight* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 03:00 GMT on Thursday, 26th March 2020).
