Basel News and Form
Even though they came out on the wrong side of the scoreboard, Basel will be happy with their work in the first leg. They lost 3-2 which was their first-ever defeat against a Dutch side. They have just started up their domestic season in Switzerland and this will be Basel’s fourth competitive fixture of the new term. So far they are W1 L2 from their three games played. In none of those three games did they manage to get a clean sheet recorded. But then on the flip side of that, you always fancy Basel to get among the goals. They have scored seven in their three played this season.
Their Champions League record stands at W48 D25 L46. They were dumped out in the first qualifying round lat season by PAOK Salonika. That result saw them take a tumble down the Europa League qualifiers where they couldn’t get themselves through to the group stage as AP Limassol surprisingly got the better of them. basel were beaten to the domestic Swiss title last season by Young Boys which is why they are here. They never make St Jakob Park an easy place for visitors.

PSV News and Form
The big worry for PSV is those away goals which they gave up. A 1-0 loss in this game will send them packing. That’s how thin of a line it is for them and because Basel are an attacking threat, the Dutch side isn’t likely going to be able to sit back the entire game. They may need to get a goal (at least) at some point. The first leg of his tie was the first competitive game of the season for PSV and their three goals all came from different players. They didn’t look at one point as if they were even going to win that first leg.
PSV had put themselves 1-0 up in the first fifteen minutes of the game. Come the final ten minutes of the home game they were 2-1 down. Eindhoven managed to get themselves a dramatic finish though as Sam Palmers equalised in the 89th minute before Donyell Malen got the winner in the 90th minute. So that will have been a relief but there is still a massive task ahead of them here as they hit the road. PSV started in the Champions League qualifiers last season and reached the main group stage. They got a rough draw there though against Spurs, Barcelona and Inter and that was the end of that.

Basel v PSV Predictions
Basel to win: Even though they couldn’t hold onto their lead, the fact that Basel were close to a win away from home says a lot. They should be able to convert now back on home soil against PSV in what is hopefully another high scoring game. Basel To Qualify.
