Finland News and Form – Can Finland upset Italy?

Finland secured a 1-0 home success over Greece on Thursday, with Norwich striker Teemu Pukki continuing his good form with the only goal of the game. That came from the penalty spot in the second half. So Finland are sat in second place behind Italy with a W4 L1 record on the board. They trial the Italians by three points but hold a three-point advantage over third-placed Bosnia and Herzegovina. A point for Finland then in this home game against the group leaders would be a very good return.

Finland came into this qualification campaign on the back of a very good Nations League. They won their group there, so are carrying form. They lost their group opener here against the Italians but then followed it up with a four-match winning streak, not conceding in any of those victories. It is probably worth leaning towards this being a low-scoring game for your betting. The Finns are undefeated in their last four European Championship qualifying home games (W3 D1) conceding just one goal in that sequence.

Italy News and Form

Italy came back from a goal down against Armenia in midweek to pick up a 3-1 win. They had more than enough in the tank to turn things around away from home after their early setback. So that makes five wins from five for them in the qualification group. Roberto Mancini’s side are well down the path to booking their place at next summer’s Finals. Italy are on a six-match winning streak and are unbeaten in nine (W7 D2).

The Azzurri also have six clean sheets in their last seven games as well (competitive and friendly). It has been at least two goals from them in each of their last five played too. Their road record in European Championship qualifiers is pretty good as you would expect from them. Italy are W5 D2 in their last seven away qualifiers. They have won their last three. Their win in Armenia in midweek was their third straight away qualification game in which they had scored exactly three goals.

Finland v Italy Predictions

Italy to win: The Italians should find a way to put three points on the board here. They had the edge over Finland in the first group meeting and even though they are away from home, the result should be the same. Finland should come up short, but we’ll suggest that they can get on the scoreboard in defeat at least.
