Race Favourite

The race favourite is COMANCHE FALLS at 4/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:15 GMT on Thursday, 15th October 2020).

He will be looking to secure a hattrick when in action on Friday night after a big burst of form.

It has been three wins from five efforts this year.

The most recent of those was over course and distance about three weeks ago. So he is going to be well worth a look as he returns to the venue.

Comanche Falls took that win from Music Society by a length and half.

He is fine when it comes to the softer ground and is likely to put another powerful, bold run on the table.

Comanche Falls is up 3lb in the rating for trainer Michael Dods. We can see him doing enough to repeat at C&D.

UK Racing Odds & Tips

Another that likes this venue and distance is LORD OBERON. He has been over course and distance four times before in his career.

Lord Oberon has been in the frame in each of them, with three runners-up spots and a third place finish. He is 6lb down from where he was when he last took on course and distance.

Lord Oberon wasn’t in great shape a couple of weeks ago at Ascot, but still piques interest on a return to Haydock.

We like the fit of EDGEWOOD as well for this content. It has been a good summer for him, winning a couple of times at Hamilton.

On his last run, he was in the middle of the pack at Doncaster, which was over a month ago. But he stays at the same mark and has a chance of being in the frame.

At the head of the betting market for this big field is MORNING VICAR at 9/2* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:15 GMT on Thursday, 15th October 2020).

He hasn’t been seen since December when he fell on what was his chasing debut.

But up until the tumble, he was shaping very well in that contest.

Morning Vicar had shown very good progress in bumpers and hurdles effort, so looks as if there is promise there in the chasing sphere. It’s a long break for him to come back from though.

We are going to put our stock in a chase debut player here. That is NORHTOFTHEWALL at 11/2* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:15 GMT on Thursday, 15th October 2020).

He is sitting on a hat-trick, but makes the move to the fences for the first time.

Northofthewall was massively progressive last season over the hurdles and delivered massive wins in his last two, both novice events.

He looks to have plenty about him to handle the step up in trip and he looks to be a really interesting player in this field.

The other that we will look at is EDEN DU HOUX. In the final race of the last campaign, he took on a Group 3 challenge and went well to take a fourth-place finish at Kempton in a 21f handicap.

Looks to have plenty of chasing range in him. So we expect him to get close to the money places as well.

We have ESPION at the head of the field for this hurdles action from Uttoxeter on Friday.

He is currently a 3/1 FAV* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:15 GMT on Thursday, 15th October 2020). He will be making his return for trainer Phillip Hobbs for the first time since March.

In that last run, which was at Uttoxeter, he just crushed the field in an imperious manner that was hard to ignore. It was only a four-runner event however, but he was faultless.

Espion got better and better as the season went on. He comes into handicapping now for the first time looking for even more. The softer conditions should not pose a problem for him.

But our pick for this race is going to be SUPREMELY LUCKY at 15/2* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:15 GMT on Thursday, 15th October 2020).

The first reason is that he is a course and distance winner. The second will be that this is his first effort following wind surgery.

With solid form having been produced in the last campaign, all over fences, he’s a player. Supremely also will be wearing cheekpieces for the first time.

AS I SEE IT is another that piques a little bit of interest to get to the places. Last October he did collect a handicap hurdle win at Exeter.

He did then have a couple of efforts over the fences earlier this year, but didn’t really make a great impression.

So he switches back to the smaller stuff and that could make him a decent player.

Race Favourite

This is the smallest field of the day that we will be looking at. It is YOUNG WOLF who is the odds-on favourite at 10/11* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:15 GMT on Thursday, 15th October 2020).

He is a proven performer in this sphere and is probably going to be tough to beat. He has won two of three runs this season for trainer Jonjo O’Neill.

Three weeks ago Young Wolf got a score on the board in a Warwick handicap. He did go for the glory a little keenly but had enough staying power to hang on.

We can’t ignore the great experience that he is able to bring to the table in this small field. He is an improving stayer and despite a 10lb penalty, he has to be the pick.

SKANDIBURG looks like the one to get closest to the favourite for this contest. He was progressing very well over the hurdles at the end of the last campaign.

So he should have a lot to offer coming into this sphere.

After wins at Aintree and Cheltenham at the 3m trip last season, he was below par on his final effort which was in the Pertemps. Skandiburg has since had surgery.

Race Favourite

This is an interesting fixture. BRENTFORD HOPE is the current 5/2 favourite for the run* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:15 GMT on Thursday, 15th October 2020).

This is a drop in the distance for him and that could be key to any potential success that he has from this effort.

In each of the last three races, he has been the beaten favourite. But there has been definite progress from Brentford Hope and he is the top-rated runner in the field.

He impressed on his debut last autumn but hasn’t managed to quite kick on. But he should be there or thereabout at the moment as he is a very strong traveller.

MASCAT is worth a look as well after having claimed back to back third place finishes. Last season he did get a maiden win at the 1m trip.

This will be the first time since that victory that he has taken on a 1m trip, as he has usually been on longer trips. He’s well with a look.

The other will be MARKAZI that we would have to consider to stick on the shortlist for the contents.

Under heavy conditions recently he took a runner up finish at Redcar recently. That continued a positive swing of form from him. So he should be in the picture.

The race favourite for our final race preview for Friday is FAVORITO BUCK’S at 5/2* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 23:15 GMT on Thursday, 15th October 2020). This will be his first run since Kempton in February.

He went well to claim a third place finish in that.

Trained by Pual Nicholls, Favorito Buck’s is from a form yard. He is sat on a more than workable mark for this contest.

So we have to keep him inside as a genuine challenger with strong claims.

AS YOU LIKE is a very interesting player in this field. He was last seen at Perth in August and despite a slow start, he produced a storming finish to get himself a second-place finish.

He has been a tremendously consistent performer. On his return to action this season As You Like scored in an extended 3m at Southwell in July.

The other that looks like the most reasonable contender is KILFILUM CROSS. He bears a 3lb claimer on his back for this one.

He was in great shape at the end of last season and he had a familiar story at the Cheltenham Festival.

For the second year running he was runner up in the Kim Muir. He has done well being well refreshed before.
