Six Nations 2019 Rugby Preview – 2.15 pm kick off

Both France and Scotland will be looking for a pick me up in the Six Nations on the weekend. France have lost their opening two matches and were hammered last time out against England. Scotland took a bruising loss against Ireland at Murrayfield to bring them back down to earth.

France collapse again

France open their campaign by throwing away a huge half time lead at home to end up losing against Wales. They couldn’t find any positives from that opening period at least to build on, when they went to Twickenham on the second weekend of the campaign. The French weaknesses were badly exposed in a heavy 44-8 defeat. Once again Les Bleus are floundering and searching for some identity.

It didn’t help that they were playing Yoann Huget out of position at full back, because he was to blame for a lot of positioning errors that allowed England to just kick behind the French and expose their lack of pace. It’s back to home soil for Les Bleus this weekend as they try and restore a bit of pride in taking on the Scots. In last season’s Six Nations France suffered a 26-32 defeat at Murrayfield.

Scots look to end winless streak in Paris

But the French have won all four of their Six Nations home games against Scotland in the last decade. None of them have been by particularly impressive margins though. The biggest of them was a +13 success back in 2011. The last two have been by no more than a converted try score. There is an even money quote on a Scotland +4 for the fixture* (betting odds taken from bet365 on February 17th, 2019 at 11:00 pm)

Scotland looked exhilarating at home against Italy in their opener, until the final ten minutes when they let the Italians run in three easy tries. Still, it was a bonus point win for Scotland to build on, but they couldn’t. They played host to Ireland in their second match, still at Murrayfield and ended up losing 22-13.

The Scots were brought down to earth in that because they really failed to get anything going against the Irish who had just been humbled badly by England at home in their opening game of the competition. That was a big missed opportunity for Scotland to really stand up and be counted. It snapped their best ever home winning streak of seven Six Nations matches too.

France v Scotland Prediction

This is such a tough game to call because Scotland look good throwing the ball around, but there are still weaknesses there in their defence. They really struggled to get a grip with Ireland.

Even though France have looked clueless again, we are going to stick with the home form of the French over the Scots and back Les Bleus in the -4 handicap at 5/6 odds* (betting odds taken from bet365 on February 17th, 2019 at 11:00 pm)
